The book begins with a day-by-day list of all the celebrations throughout the month, and then a reproducible calendar for the classroom with clip art of symbols to place on the calendar.

September idea book contains reproducibles for the following topics: Back to school (with name tags, "welcome back" posters, student passes, behavior charts, word searches), All about me (contains a shape book, picture frame, writing prompts), All year round (bookmarks, awards, certificates, pencil toppers, bulletin board displays), Classroom birthdays (bookmarks, shape book, mobile, greeting cards), Apple time (Johnny Appleseed's reading and coloring pages, bookmark, apple mobile, apple shape book, apple puppet, writing paper), Mexican Independence Day (coloring pages, word search, a map, piƱatas to make, a shape book) American Indian Day (map, word search, writing with pictograms, a research page, an Indian and his canoe) Grandparent's Day (card, puppets, quilt, coat of arms) and Substitute Forms.

This is a great book to use as a re-teaching source for sequencing. It starts with wordless pictures and progresses to complete stories to be put in the proper sequence. I have found it very helpful in my first grade class.

I am using these as a class starter and I love them. They have a big variety of problems. The only negative is my students need more than a minute to do them. Right now we are doing 2, but I will shorten it as time goes on. It's only the 1st week of school!

Favorite product for signing games/ card index
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-01
I often use the Sign2Me flash card series for games we play at home and in the baby sign language classes I teach in Boiling Springs, SC. The cards have adorable pictures on the front for your child to see and associate with the sign you show them (which you can clearly view on the back of the card). The word for the sign is also shown in English and Spanish on the front of the card, so you have the 3 most popular languages in the US and Canada all on one card! The back of the card box shows an index of the signs contained in the box.
Here's an example of one of the games we enjoy playing. There are 5 flash card sets within the series. Each set has a different color for the box/cards. I have a soft dice with a different color on each side, and the colors coordinate with the colors on the flash cards. I lay the flash cards out on the floor in piles, all red in one pile, all blue in another, etc. The child (or mom helping the child) rolls the dice then chooses a card according to the color the dice landed on. We make the sign for that color, then we make the sign that's on that card. This color dice would be very easy to make, or just take a stack of index cards and with the different colors represented by the flash cards, use a crayon to make a 'color blob' on each card. Then have your child choose a card from the index card stack, followed by the coordinating flash card. Easy, fun, and great for teaching colors and signs. This is just one of many games you can use to have fun learning and practicing signs! Be creative and enjoy!

I hope it's ok to do this, but one mom expressed in her review that she wished she could have seen a list of cards that comes with each flash card set. So, here you go...

excellent series for teaching science; ELL-friendly!

I am an ESL teacher who bought this series to help me teach science to English Language Learners. The series is written for native speakers, not ELLs, but the student pages are uncluttered, and the language is not complex. Each text includes a variety of experiments and activities to teach key science concepts.

Math Activities for Different Learning Styles
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-24
Most visual learners need to learn math by seeing a picture of the concept. This book meets that requirement by using familiar objects in a fun and engaging manner. Kinesthetic learners like to manipulate and touch, and there are plenty of games and activities to satisfy their learning style. As a teacher I found the ideas in this book to be the perfect solution for my active students. I frequently use math learning centers and these ideas make the activities fun and useful.Memory Tips for Math, Memorization and Learning Styles: The Successful Way to Teach K-5 Math
