Toys and Games Books

I use one of these every morning with my Kindergarten students. They love them and the riddles really make them think! In this day and age, this is a GOOD thing!

I bought this as a holiday gift for my 10-year-old cousin. He loved it. Put the scorpion together right on the spot, in the middle of the party, and then he and my 4-year-old son played with it for an hour. Not sure how much of the book he'll end up reading (besides the instructions), although I hope he does -- but either way this was a fun toy for him.

I bought this book when I decided to do something about my life-long love of rocking horses; buy an old horse and restore it. This book gave me a lot of the information I needed.

It's a large book, with space for lots of beautiful colour photos of old rocking horses, and other moving horse toys such as pull and push horses. There are sections on the early origins of rocking horses, the important English, European, American, and Australian makers. There is a section on conservation, restoration and reproductions.

If you are trying to find information on some particular aspect of rocking horses, it is likely to be here. Though out of print and expensive, all the collectors/restorers I know have a copy.

It is not quite perfect; to my mind, Patricia Mullins does not give enough space to the great English makers, F.H. Ayres and the various Lines family firms. I'd like an extensive, easy to use chart on identification. But these are minor cavils.

If you are a rocking horse enthusiast, you need this book.

Wonderful! The kids I work with all love this book. It unrolls into such delightful surprises. This book also leads into other fun activities as well as learning numbers and reading. For a creative art project we drew our own pictures of numbers with captions and surprises. The kids really enjoyed doing this activity as well as reading the book over and over again! Thank you for this exciting educational tool!

This re-telling of the classic tale is absolutely stunning in its illustrations. The storyline definately needs explaining to small children. My 3 year old son wanted to know why the small man could take the Queen's baby away. Of course, Rumpelstilskin never actually takes the baby because the Queen learns his name. However, the premise of the story is unsettling to small kids. Nevertheless, I would not go overboard with political correctness as the story is a classic and so long as you explain the story, your children should enjoy it. I also recommend Mr. Galdone's other books as his illustrations are absolutely wonderful!

I love this book! As a room mom I used this all the time to make papers (to be sent home, spelling tests, etc.) cute. I think that most papers sent home should make an impact and this book (and CD) help do that!

This book is full of ideas that make sense and eye opening strategies for students. A wonderful way to help students make meaning of numbers and find enjoyment in the study of math.
