We have just completed the first two weeks out of the 10-week program recommended in this book. Preparing for kindergarten seems to be going really easy with my 5 year old. He likes doing his "homework" out of this book and asks to do it every day without being reminded. So far so good! I plan on getting another copy of the book to get my second child ready for kindergarten next year. I would recommend this book to all parents of pre-K children.

The kids I work with love this game
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-05
I see quite a few kids in my work as a therapist. I have found that the kids who are old enough to understand the rules (usually 5+) really love this game. This game, in my experience, can benefit kids who are learning their letters, learning to read, and/or kids who are working on their speaking abilities. They like it since it's a fun way for them to practice and learn without it feeling like school or homework. I would actually recommend this to parents and I'd say you should set aside some time a couple nights a week to play this and other (educational) games with your kid(s) since part of what makes the kids like it is that you're there playing with them. It's a great way to encourage and support them as they learn. Also, this doesn't have to just be about the letters since each card has an animal on it and the type of animal written out below so it can also help with reading. For example, I'll ask the child, "Do you have an 'A' as in 'Alligator'?" and they will have to do the same on their turn so they learn to associate the picture of the animal with the word. And, of course, they love to win and then count out how many pairs they got (good for learning/practicing counting too!). Basically, I can't speak highly enough of this game. It encourages learning, practicing numbers, letters, reading, speaking, and healthy competition, and gives them some always needed attention at the same time.
P.S. - For kids who don't get the rules just yet, it can be played as a matching game!

This book is a walk down memory lane for the Baby Boomer generation. I can't tell you the fun I had doing the research! Here presented in color are the dolls that were cherished from 1946-1964, often considered the Golden Age of collectible dolls. If you like vintage dolls and those who loved them, then this is the book for you! A. Glenn Mandeville

The Munchkin fun continues

This is yet another installment of the highly successful Munchkin series of card games. As with the others, it can be played as a stand-alone or mixed in with the others for extra humor.

My gaming group plays a lot of Munchkin, and between the 6 of us we have purchased every set. Most of the time we play a "genre" by itself, then switch for variety. But sometimes we mix them up.

What else can I say? If you like puns, this is a great game. If you like card games with an extra dose of humor, you'll like this game. The gameplay takes a little while to learn, but it gets fast once you've played a few games.

Be sure to know your cards on the table! Many times I could have gotten out of a situation by simply remembering what I had down or in my hand.

Perfect for preschoolers

This book was the perfect, short-attention-span type of book for preschoolers. It was not a story, just good information. It mentioned eating whole grains, where grain grows, MyPyramid, and serving sizes and amounts. Great whole-page real-people pictures. I bought the whole set of food group books.

EXCELLENT FUN BOOK

I truly believe in the title of this book that it contains manipulatives that kids love. I have used many of the manipulatives in this book with my students and they love it.

For example, to teach preposition, I zap the 'Find the Treasures!' wheel for the kids to put it together and they enjoyed themselves by turning the wheel to see where the treasures are buried and to draw an X to mark each spot. The kids also enjoyed themselves in cutting, colouring and putting the wheel together. Most importantly, the kids get to learn about preposition in a fun way rather than memorising them.

I love this book and very teacher should get this.

My kids got this for a gift and really loved it. There's lots of educaqtional content -- told through a mystery -- but the kids just knew they were having fun! Pop-out castle model unfolds to make a large scene, with 38 press out figures to play with. Also kind of an I-spy game with hidden objects. My kids had hours of fun.

I love this series of books illustrated by Chris Gilvan-Cartwright. As a Kindergarten teacher, I find that my students are captivated by this book. They can read this book themselves and love to test themselves with the clues. It has even inspired some of my students to creat their own "open the flap for a clue" books.

On top of hundreds of fantastic photos the book has game discriptions and prices. Many that are not pictured are still in the price list and described there. The dates of manufacture as well as the maker and the origin. Includes a fantastic history of trade stimulator as a whole, and offers contacts for restoration and evaluation. I need another copy, I have worn mine out!
