Perfect for Kindergarten Colors Theme
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-18
This series of color books have been a huge hit with my Kindergarteners this year! They love the stunning full color photographs, showing common things that are red, such as apples, red licorice, and stop signs. Our first reading they like to name the objects as I pause at the end of each page, then we revisit it for the rhyming text and another time for the informational side text, which is great for vocabulary building. I bought the whole collection of these color books and thoroughly enjoyed each one during my "Color Days" activities in September. Each book also has a Table of Contents, Words to Know, Read More, Internet Sites, and Index, which I can refer to for lessons later in the year. The back pages of these color books contain information about the color wheel, with fun suggestions and illustrations for primary color mixing with paint, frosting, etc. to form the secondary colors. I am so glad I was introduced to this series from a colleague! If you teach K-2 you will love this series too!

I love the doll - enjoy the books!

Review Date: 2008-03-28
I have just recently begun collecting these dolls and their clothes. I love miniatures and the detail that goes into them when they are done to scale, quality materials, attention to detail. This doll has all that. I have Barbie dolls from my childhood and the first clothes offered for that doll had style and quality --- the later clothing line didn't come close. Mattel now makes a Silkstone line of Barbies for collectors that has that quality back.

Tonner Doll Company has had the quality in the doll and clothes since it's inception. The doll and clothes are to die for. Such detail in material, buttons, zippers, lining, etc., makes for beautiful clothes for the doll. And it all goes with the doll's story line - The House of Wentworth. I now have three Tyler Wentworth dolls (blonde, brunette, and red head), Tyler's sister Marley, Tyler's boyfriend Matt O'Neill, and a Sydney Chase doll (of the Chase Modeling Agency).

I enjoy collecting these dolls and displaying them in their different outfits. I highly recommend this book (and "The Tyler Wentworth Fifth Anniversary Album" book) to all Fashion Doll collectors and especially for Tonner Doll Co. doll collectors too! Enjoy!

This is the second robotic toy and book my grandson finished. The book was perfect, great info and entertaining. Putting the robotic together is challenging without being overwhelming. the bat is especially exciting when finished. He is looking foward to adding to his robotic collection.

Toy Story

Review Date: 2008-06-02
These are toys, the subject matter of a brilliant collection of the artifacts of Japanese ingenuity. Tin toys, produced by tin printing and punching machines, permit a peek into the Japan of the 1950's. Tin toys are mass produced but seem hand-crafted.

There are robots and space ships. A robot tractor and bull dozer have particular charm. There is a robot seesaw. Also there are moon scouts, astronauts, capsules, space stations, and rockets. There are gear robots.

Figures and scenarios are elaborate. Ball escalators are amusing. Skiers are pulled by a dog or turn on a sort of wheel. There is a ball kicker. A highly-wrought horse-race is presented, complete with painted spectators, seating, airplane, clubhouse, greenery. There is a Coney Island rocket ride.

Popeye figures roller-skate, ride a bike, a plane. The pipe is always present, (signifier). There is a girl with a hula hoop, and one with a sewing machine. A remarkable piece is a boy with a camera--highly realistic. Other characters created by comics artists are present, such as Mickey Mouse, Batman, and fantasy figures.

Finally, there are the cars. There is a TV crew bus and car. There is more than one Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, Lincoln, and Packard in the collection. This is magnificent.

Kitahara's world famous tin toy collection has been photographed many times, and featured in very small paperbacks and large coffee table spreads. This is probably the happy medium; a very inexpensive, large (nearly 350 pages) and visually inviting photoessay that lets the toys speak for themselves.

As many books as there are on tin toy robots, they nearly all feature the same collections, and so the photography and presentation become paramount. Taschen has often featured Kitahara's museum(s) but never to better effect than in this inexpensive volume. Kitahara's collection also includes non-space themed tin toys, but this book concentrates on the robots and space toys from the '50s and '60s when Japan brought unbridled creativity and unparalleled design to tin toys.

A fun favorite!

This colorful busy book is a favorite with my 3-year-olds. Each page is a loosely-formed maze, where the children have to "start at the pink and orange coral," go "around the place where starfish dance," and so on until a toy is found at the end of each page. Every direction is accompanied by a picture (coral, starfish, etc.) - my 3-yr-old, who can't read a word, actually reads the book to me, making me follow the directions. He feels so proud telling everyone that he can read the book.

The book successfully combines reading and activity to keep children entertained over and over. They love whispering their way past the scary monsters in the last page to finally save Brave Ted. And if they get bored with just following the mazes, there are plenty of fun things to find in each page.

This book is a definite keeper, and I'm now looking for more by the same author!

Wonderful book!

CP books are real treasures-- wonderful, witty illustrations (by a variety of talented artists), funny, smart, never condescending. Each book involves the child on a number of levels, with puzzles (matching, mazes, searches, etc) that might even stump a parent or two... for awhile.

Kids go back to them again and again, so do yourself and your children--or someone else's children, a big favor and give all of CP 's books a try (though 'Save Brave Ted' is an absolute favorite of one adorable rugrat of my aquaintance, and then there's 'Captain Blood', and Clarence the Cat and those crazy spacemen from the planet ...)

I highly recommend this book to every Schoenhut collector

I have a large web site celebrating carved dolls with several web pages about Schoenhut dolls. I use this book as my main reference for Schoenhut dolls.

I love this book. Carol's method of presenting the dolls by Schoenhut model numbers has changed the way modern doll collectors refer to these dolls. Now a collector might state, "I have a 316 in mint condition". Thanks to Carol, others will be able to picture her doll clearly in our mind.

Carol's stories about the Schoenhut family members and each of their very active involvement with the toy company puts a very personal slant on the history of this family oriented company. It should be obvious from this book that the Schoenhut family took great pride in producing the best quality, durable dolls and toys because they loved children and enjoyed the great fun of watching children at play.

If you collect Schoenhut dolls, then you really NEED this book -- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A Must-Have Book for any Schoenhut Collector!
