Zaloga Has Two Sherman Modeling Books, actually...

Steve Zaloga is a superb historian of US and Soviet military equipment, and a very capable model builder, as well as an extremely talented writer, so you really cannot go wrong with any title he has written. Where Amazon has gone wrong is that they have confused his two books on "Modelling the US Army M4 Sherman Tank" as different editions of the same book. If you click on the "paperback" edition link above, you'll find the companion volume, which deals with building the early variants of the Sherman family with the 75 mm gun. This second volume deals with the later, 76 mm gun versions.
Since space is at a premium in these little booklets, Zaloga just addresses variants actually used by US Army units (some types, like the M4A4, and late M4A2 versions were used mainly by Allied troops). He points up some basic improvements needed to make the available kits accurate, and includes very helpful "in progress" photos to illustrate the fixes. He also shows the novice how to deal with the individual link tracks included in some Sherman kits, which are challenging to assemble unless you build a simple jig as demonstrated in the book. And since he likes to display completed models in small vignettes, you get some nice tips on producing simple but effective dioramas, as well.

This book is really geared for advanced modelers. It does have some nice color photos including some beautiful models by the author. But the modeling tips are really more advanced and are a bit beyond my current abilities. Maybe someday I'll be able to put this to better use.

I am an experienced armor modeler but I am always looking for new painting and weathering techniques. I found this book to offer several color schemes and painting approaches for the Sherman tank. I have been able to take and adapt the author's ideas to my work on some recent models. My litmus test for modeling books is simple: whether it helps me improve my skills in the hobby or not. This book did.

I do not have the time or patience for scratch building using styrene plastic and I seldom use aftermarket parts on my models--in part because I have a hard time making large cuts on a $40 plus tank model that I may or may not be able to repair. The author provided information about upgrading Sherman tank models with aftermarket parts and scratchbuilding parts. That is not, as stated, my interest, albeit it may be interesting or valuable to another modeler with different skills.

I have three other books of the same genre by the same author; I have ordered another. My opinion is that these are good products for the serious modeler and worth the money.

Mr. Zaloga, a noted armor historian, strikes again with this volume in the Osprey Modelling series. This volume is themed around the famous M4 "Sherman" tank with the 75mm gun. The later "Shermans" with 76mm guns will be in a follow-on volume. This voluime has a brief overview and several model projects in different scales. The quality of workmanship is tremendous and each chapter has lots of historical information as well as modelling techniques. Each model has in-progress photos as well as descriptions and photographs of the finished project. This book is very handy for beginners as well as advanced modelers and should be in the collection of any person who enjoys military vehicle modeling.

It's a Munchkin expansion. Munchkin is awesome. Get as much Munchkin cards as possible. Incidently, the Ranger Class added in Munchkin 5 is cheap and annoying, so use as often as possible.

At last, the rangers have arrived! They can tame the monsters and ride them like the steeds of Munchkin 4. While I thought Munchkin 4 did the best job of balancing the series (providing plenty of handless items and hirelings with class) this one's cool too. And just in time for you know what, we have the Philosopher's Scone. :)

The customer service of this company was amazing, they were always very quick to respond and very willing to work with me to create an amazing book. I have been telling all of my friends with children that they need to buy this product or one of the many others from Creations By You. When I told my mom I wanted to write an autobiography and have it published into a "real" book, she got this kit for me.
It was perfect!
Photostory Jr. is like Illustory, except that you can use stickers and photos and can write a little more. You can still draw things, though.
All materials needed are included, except for the photos (of course).
I highly recommend this kit.

My children did the Illustory kits for years but once they got a little older, they wanted a little bit more and this kit is perfect. You can still do drawings with your stories but this kit lets you use photos and stickers (some already come in the kit) and stamps and scrapbook and art materials--just about anything they want to jazz up the pages. We've made books for friends as a birthday gift, we did a travelogue of our last vacation and we've even used them to make an end-of-the-year yearbook for the teacher (everyone wanted a copy!). This kit is so cool and unique--there are hundreds of uses for it!

This is a beautifully written and researched book which I found both helpful and interesting. As a doll critic, I often find books about doll artists to be very self indulgent, but this book represented an honest and straight forward look at one of America's most incredible and talented doll manufacturers.

As both a doll artist and a collector, I knew I had to have this book detailing the career of one of America's premiere doll artists in recent history. Robert Tonner has brought American doll artistry to new heights. There are so many wonderful illustrations of all of Tonner's dolls from the beginning of his career through 2000. Reading Tonner's story truly makes an artist believe that anything is possible - especially success - with a vision, talent and a lot of hard work! I am truly inspired having read this book and there are few people I would like to meet as much as I would love to meet Mr. Tonner.

This non book expansion card set for the non-book game of Munchkin adds 112 new cards. More wierdness and tounge-in-cheek humor for old D&D players and young alike.

I still don't know why these are listed as books but it still doesn't matter, buy them. Remember this is an expansion deck, you should own Munchkin before buying this game. (Yes game NOT BOOK)

But you CAN read the cards.....

A most excellent addition!

Munchkin 2 makes the original Munckin card game even better. This item arrives in disposable packaging, and is meant to be slipped into the box you got along with your original Munchkin game. The cards from the two decks are fungible, so once you have put them together you will never find the need to seperate them.

I purchased this game along with Star Munchkin about eight months ago. The latter game was fun, but the addition of all these extra cards to the Munchkin deck made Munchkin my group's game of choice. If you are considering either buying Star Munchkin *or* the expansion sets to Munchkin (Munchkin 3 Clerical Errors was recently released as of this writing), then I would suggest that you buy the two expansions. If you want to add an "Oriental Adventures" flavor to your card gaming, Munchkin Fu, another new release should do the trick. It can be added with the other Munchkin cards or played seperately.

You will enjoy the Munchkin card game if you are able to get a group of players together that will harbor no ill feelings towards backstabbing and general treachery. I find that four works best, three being too few because two have a tendancy to gang up on one, and five being still quite fun, but taking a little longer between plays to progress.

A wonderful expansion for a great game!

Review Date: 2006-06-05
Munchkin, like all good comedy, makes it look easy. The game seems to be a haphazard collection of puns and silly in-jokes for gamers. But there's something else there. It plays well, has fairly balanced rules and manages to keep the competitiveness in the game even through all the laughter, right up to the last card.

This expansion walks the same tightrope, but it does work. The humor is as good as the cover implies, and if you have a group of gamers that enjoy a good laugh, you NEED to grab Munchkin and the first two expansions at least.

I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I found this resource for teaching informational/nonfiction selections to my 6th graders. It covers everything I am required by the state to teach: reading tools/strategies, text organization, graphic aids, various type of articles/selections, etc. A huge plus is the color transparencies that come with it and accompany the different selections.

This is one of the best resources I've come across. I can teach the whole unit just using this one source. How often can a teacher say that??

Alice Boynton's lessons are very sensible and any teacher shouldn't have problems with her suggestions. It might also be useful for a parent, like me, who has an elementary school kid and who's trying to get her to do more than read manga and watch anime. Boynton's tips attempt to capture the student's attention span and force her/him to invst some intellectual effort. To payoff in learning from an entire world of these non-fiction books.

I am a book lover and a Teddy bear lover and this is one of the most amazing books I have ever seen. I was recently at the book show in Chicago and was stopped dead in my tracks by the photographs and the delightful captions in this book. The bears are cute beyond words, the captions are endearing, and the young photographer and writer is going to go places. He is destined for quite a career. This book will become part of my personal collection and also is slated for Christmas giving, baby showers, birthdays, and anyone else that gets a gift from me.

If you only by one Teddy Bear book this year, make it this one! In fact, if you are buying this book as a present, better buy two. Because when it arrives and you look through it, you're going to want one for yourself! These bears have a whimsy and outlook on the world that's all their own! Marc Hoberman is a fantastic photographer with a real knack for bringing these bears, and their world, to vivid life. The captions are gently humorous, giving readers an insight into the world as bears see it. Captain Sam and pool-playing Douglas Padpaw are among my favorites, but they are all wonderful. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed!

We've had this book from the library for almost a month now, and I'm pretty sure we've read it EVERY night. Our youngest daughter wouldn't think of going to bed now until she'd been tickled. (Even our 10 and 11 year old daughters will come in just to get in on the tickle action!) She likes to trade places in the story, and some nights she's the ticklemonster and I'm Tough Teddy. It really is like a little play they put on while they're listening to the book. We will be giving this book to her for Christmas, sentencing ourselves to what will probably be months of reading the same book over and over....oh to be 3 again!

This book is like an oversized, jam-packed version of the quarterly catalog Bill Bruegman put out for Toy Scouts, his retro-nostalgia toy hunting business. It's an oversized, black and white paperback with a full color cover showing lots of great toys. The inside is chock full not only of pictures of 'sixties era toys but also stories. One of the best is about the guy at Ideal who invented Mr. Machine (recently reproduced by Poof Toys). There's also great info about how Mattell came up with so many ingenious toys.

Many of the toys of this era would be outlawed today for insurance reasons. Companies like Tycho bought the molds and brought a lot of them back, sometimes in revised, safer versions. Due to books like this, some toys like Rock 'Em Sock "Em robots have made a comeback. Twenty bones might seem high for this book, but in my view it's a bargain, with hundreds of pictures to pore over, not to mention sprinklings of trivia and Bill's industry anecdotes. Not only that, but this book alerted me to a toy I never knew existed that I stumbled on at a thrift shop. Which is to say, it's a great place to start scouting.

"Toys of the Sixties" is primarily a collector's tool, but in being so has a considerable listing of toys manufactured from the late 50's through 1970 or so. Without a doubt, if you grew up in this time, some of your toys will be listed here- and some toys you wanted but never received. All this said, even though my copy says "4th Edition" and the copyright is 1996, what prose there is, and the ads for additional material seem out of the 1980's. I couldn't find websites or email addresses for any of these catalogs, and no specified method of payment either. I would be cautious about using this book for collecting given the fact it's almost 10 years old, but a lot of memories will come back while reading it.

A great resource for sixties or vintage toys!
