A Must-Have for any Mod-Era Barbie Fan!!!

This book is as close to being perfect as any can get in the Barbie world. Not only is it informative and well-written, it's fun too!

Each outfit is explained in detail, with each part listed, along with what parts may be more difficult to find, any variations in the outfit, etc. All of these items, where possible, are photographed flat and clearly so you can see each item separately and know what each thing is. Then, another photograph is taken on the doll, in a fun setting that usually goes with the name of the outfit somehow, so you can actually see how the outfit looks on a doll, something which I think is really important.

The photographs are great pretty much right across the board. The book is well-written, with a great sense of humour. All in all, you can't go wrong if you're into Mod-era Barbie and buy this book!

This is a very good reference for vintage structures, but be aware that it mainly covers the vintage era (pre-1973) with only a few select items up to 1975 or so. Still looking for that perfect reference book for those collecting Barbies from 1973 on...

This is a great book for reliving long lost toys, and in the case of us people in Australia where many of these items didn't make it to our shores, what we missed out on as kids. For the collector, it is a good guide to what is still out there, probably waiting to be rediscovered in long lost closets or or ebay when they are given the opportunity for a new lease of life.

Amazing Reference Guide!

I am delighted to own this book, not only because it does a quite perfect job of listing every little piece which came with some of Barbie's early and Mod Era houses/cases/rooms, especially the rarer items, but because the photos are fantastic and fun - posing Barbie and her family/friends in these structures, in many of her wonderful period outfits, is simply genius! Demonstrating how to use some of these structures for displays of your collected Barbies, Marl creates a complete world in miniature. I was surprised to learn that the very old, cardboard furniture & structures designed for Barbie have withheld the ravages of time much better than many of the molded plastic furniture sets/houses from the late 60's/early 70's. An excellent book, and a must-have for the scene-designing Barbie collector!

The excellent photos and parts listings are very helpful when you need to know what exactly came with any given set. This book covers Cardboard and plastic structures and sets for barbie and all her friends and family, an excellent book for any collector.

The book covers a wide range of subjects on planning, building and operating a Lionel O-guage layout, but does not go into a lot of detail. Both Post-War and Modern Lionel trains and tracks are covered as is the newer TMCC electronic controls. The photos of existing Lionel O-gauge layouts are excellent, but the book did not describe the type of track nor were track layout diagrams provided, which would have been very informative. Nevertheless, the book is interesting and provides a good overview of what to consider when planning and building a Lionel O-gauge layout.

Great for beginner and expert Lionel train fans

This book with its excellent pictures and detailed descriptions will satisfy the model train neophyte as well as the old veterans.
It is geared especially to the famous "O" gauge Lionel trains of yesteryear. It can serve as a reference book for those just starting out or rediscovering the joys of model train collecting and operating layouts.

This book lays a great foundation for anyone starting out. Practical ideas and methods are shown for wiring track and accessories. Care and maintenance. High quality book with very thick glossy pages and many many color photos along with some B/W photos. This would be helpful for anyone interested in 3 track O-gauge even if they are planning on using non-Lionel trains and accessories.

This is a story for younger children, about a boy who likes to ask questions. Not about dragons, or witches or monsters, but about the ordinary things around us like ball-point pens, and peas, and his dog Frank. The best and biggest question is of course 'What if?' "What if I drew with this ball point pen until it ran out, how long would the line be?" "What if I ran this bath until the room filled up with water, how long would it take?" These are the sort of questions that all kids ask. The difference is that this kid has the answers. I found this book a delight with colourful and amusing illustrations. I would recommend it to anyone with children aged 4-10. Also to grown-ups who still have the enquiring mind of a child

This book contains wonderful illustrations of a boy and his unforgetable dog Frank. The boy, as he's referred to in the book, uses Frank as a unit of measure. The boy also calculates fascinating and interesting facts about peas (his least favorite vegetable), humpback whales, his father and the bathtub. It inspires readers to reconsider measurement and allows them to laugh at the same time. It is a wonderful book full of intresting, if sometimes seemingly useless, facts about numbers, calculation and one amazing dog name Frank!

This is a great resource for parents to help kids keep their knowledge and skills fresh over the summer between grades. Kids complete just 2 worksheets each day for 10 weeks -- it's just enough to keep them up to speed and doesn't take a lot of time for kids to do or parents to supervise.

The Daily Summer Activities books are fantastic! They are layed out so nice. There is a page each for Monday - Friday with a little bit of everything for each day (a little math, spelling, reading, thinking skills, ...). Just the right amount so kids don't forget what they've learned over the summer, but not too much - so its hard to complain about.

Admirers of the world of minitures will be enthralled with the exquisite pieces displayed. All will learn much about the homes themselves, their makers, their furnishings, and their owners. The quality of the volume is without question, with glossy pages, sturdy binding, durable covers and clear text. I thoroughly recommend it to all.

The intriguing shape of the book worried me a bit, so often the content doesn't measure up to a cover -- but I was in love from page one...

I have many books on dollhouses and miniatures, but this is the one I have on display, and it has inspired me to finally get on with putting all those miniatures I have been collecting into order and getting those dollhouse plans finished.

This was a very cool book! The first thing you notice when you pick up this book is that the cover is shaped just like a house, and the book's opening is right down the middle. It feels like you are opening up the doors to a real dollhouse. Inside, there are full color illustrations of dolls, dollhouses, and furniture on nearly every page. The details are phenomenal! If you are a collector or builder of dollhouses, this is your book! I really enjoyed looking at the pictures and reading about the privately owned dollhouses and collections that are featured in this book. Some of the more unique houses shown in the book are the Kupjack rooms, the Palace of Versailles, and the Shoe House. Those of you who attend miniature shows or are a member of NAME will recognize the names Brooke Tucker, Ned Kellogg, and Marcia Backstrom as miniaturists featured between these pages. This book is a wonderful addition to the collection of minature hobbyists everywhere.

Of all the many books produced about the timeless toy classic of G.I. Joe, none has reached the pinnacle of understanding, love and respect than Mr. Marshall's. His in-depth coverage of the development of America's Mobile Fighting Man is beyond any other writing on the subject. Combined with John Marshall's particular humorist style, the era of these action figures is brought back to life. If you love G.I. Joe, you MUST OWN THIS BOOK!

The first of a trilogy by John Marshall (he has two other, similar books; one about 60's toys, the other about the 80's), this is the one closest to my heart. ALL of the toys I collected as a kid are either pictured or mentioned. He must be around my age, because his memories of buying and playing with his toys somewhat mirror my own (and that's what collecting is all about; NOSTALGIA, not values and prices...right? RIGHT!?).

More than just a price guide, this book is a funny, informative walk down memory lane that would make a great gift for any boy who played with toys in the seventies.

PS. His chapter on the Micronauts is worth the price of the book!

It provides skill based readings for all but my lowest and highest readers. The layout and images are fantastic and mature and thus, don't make my middle school students feel as if they are doing "baby" work. I teach students in grades 6-8 who are struggling in reading. These articles are a perfect one day lesson to teach a reading skill. The book is organized by strategy: main idea, inference, sequencing, using context clues, etc. and then by reading level with increasing difficulty to reinforce the skill and stretch the student's reading skills. I often will use the lowest readability article to introduce the topic and work up in difficulty. It also allows for independent work on same strategy but at differnt levels.

The articles are interesting to students and look like anything else their friends may have as classwork or homework. If I could only have access to a handful of teachng resource books, this is one I wouldn't part with. I wish they would come out with a Volume 2!

I would also recommend the same book but for grades 2-3 with readability levels beginning at 1st grade to reach your lowest readers.

This is one of the best picture books, ever. Grover would like to play hide and seek with the listener, but he has very limited hiding options, as he is caught within the confines of the pages of the book you are holding. He tries everything from coloring the pages blue to making a lot of speech balloons to hide behind, but his presence is always obvious. He gets increasingly deperate to find a good hiding place as the listener outs him time after time. In the end, he resorts to begging the listener to pretend that he can't be found, and then thanks the listener joyously, ending with a warm "you are my best friend."

This book is so inventive and fun that it's unbelievable. By making the child an active participant in the game, there's not a moment when the listener will feel left out, and the empowerment of being able to find Grover again and again is immeasurable. In the end, the listener learns a lesson about how to make someone else happy, even if it means bending the rules of the game a little, which is a great thing to teach kids.

The illustrations are also terrific, featuring lots of cute details that make it seem like Grover is inhabiting the book (such as drawn tears and creases in the page).

This is a book that will bring you and your child closer together for hours of fun. I highly recommend it, along with Oscar's Book, Grover and the Everything in the Whole Wide World Museum, and There's a Monster at the End of this Book (which also stars Grover).

I have been searching for this delightful book in children's stores for some time. I have five children and wore out two copies of this much loved book and I was thrilled to find it here! If you can try to imitate Grover's voice a bit when you read it to your child,it makes it even more special. The declaration at the end about the child being the reader's BEST FRIEND brought tears to my eyes almost everytime we read it.This book is a real TREASURE. I heartily encourage you to try this book out on your favorite,(or even troublesome child), and watch them melt as you tell them from the bottom of your heart,"You're my BEST FRIEND!"
