Cars and Trucks Books

My 2-year old daughter *loves* this book, especially finding Goldbug. Although now she's done it so many times, she remembers where he is on each page, so even though it's still fun for her, it's lost a little of the mystery. Can anyone recommend any similar proto-'where's waldo'-type books for toddlers?

My grandson loves the book. He's into trucks, etc., and the abundance and variety of moving vehicles is fascinating to him.

Wonderful book. Lots to look at and discuss. My son cannot get enough of this book. It has been his favorite for at least three months so far! We wore out a yard sale copy and bought a new one! It is a great distraction in the car and at restaurants. Excellent at bedtime. Richard Scarry is great.

I bought this book for my 2-year-old son and he loves it. He is into trucks and cars and wouldn't put this down. He now knows about all kinds of trucks. There isn't much of a story. He just likes looking at and saying all of the different trucks (such as a flatbed trailer).

My son loves Richard Scarry books and construction equipment so this book is a good match. He pores over the pictures looking for Goldbug and pointing out funny things like Hilda Hippo driving a loader.

This is a great rhyming book with sight words. A wonderfully illustrated board book that is great for kids...especially those with parents who own Jeeps.

Sheep in a Jeep tells the a rip-roaring story of a bunch of sheep who get into a lot of trouble with a jeep. These rhymes and more abound in Sheep in a Jeep.

The cute sing-song words to this book make it perfect for toddlers. It's short and sweet, so it can keep their attention. There are plenty of animals to capture the interests of little ones. And finally...it's short..did I mention that?

This is one of my little girl's favorite book and I don't mind reading it over and over again.

We got this book as a gift when my son was 2 years old. It's gone through two more kids and they all love it! We take it with us when we go for Jeep rides, too! We have "Sheep out to eat" and they don't like that as much as the Jeep one. It's a great book to have, especially if you own a Jeep!

This series is full of easy rhymes. It makes a great early reader, as well as a great read-aloud for a younger preschooler or toddler.

The sheep, in their jeep, have a run of rhyming problems, until they finally realize they're better off without it. Great fun, funny and cute.

Sheep in a Jeep is a fun book using rhythmic wording. The pictures are humorous. My disappointment was with the small size of the board book. No where did it say the miniature dimensions of the book. I prefer board books that are in the larger format of 8x11.

My son loves this book & others by the same author. This is a great book for little boys!

My two year old son is obsessed with construction trucks and this book hits the spot for him. And its great to read just before bed (with the lights dimmed) since the pictures are so large and the font is easy to read. There is enough detail to allow you to really interact with your child and ask him "Where is the dump truck? Where is the ladder? Where is the workman?" And it has a good ending where all the trucks go to bed which is PERFECT for bedtime. We love this book and have read it every night since we received it 3 months ago. I highly recommend it.

This is a wonderful book about machines and the art work is great. Toddler boys who are into cars, trucks, trackers would enjoy this book.

Our copy has now passed on to our third child -- Anna and Jane loved this book, and Danny loves it, too.

Byron Barton really seems to "get it" -- what captivates a child. Bold illustrations, nice use of color, and just enough detail for a board book.

Board books aren't necessarily meant to teach or be encyclopedic -- they're like good friends that you visit every day, and look forward to doing so. "Machines At Work" is just that -- a good friend.

We've named the characters, we make construction sounds when we read, and we love the lunch break and the end of the day pages.

Solidly constructed, wonderfully illustrated, and age appropriate, "Machines At Work" is a winner, sure to please any pre-reader. Thank you, Byron Barton!

When I first got this for my son (2 years), I thought "What a snooze-fest!" We were still high on the Mo Willems wave, still in love with Knuffle Bunny and the slightly off-kilter viewpoint of the Pigeon, so the utter barrenness and simplicity of Machines at Work honestly put me off. But, as it is all about the baby (and don't he know it!), Connor simply loves it! Although he is fickle (we have now moved on to the pop-up Bug series by David A. Carter) it firmly held the New Boy Times #1 bedseller slot for a good 3 weeks (an eternity to the toddler set). It also was known to douse many a tantrum (great diversion - "I know you just ka-bonked your head on the dining room table for the fortieth time today, but LOOK AT THESE COOL TRUCKS!") and entertain on long car rides.

The story (as it is) involves a diverse work crew doing stuff with simple 4-5 word narration for each page. It is so simple, it is almost zen-like. And Connor came to be able to repeat each phrase as we turned the page - as soon as I opened the cover he would gleefully shoud out "Hey, you guys!". Reading this to him at bedtime has become one of the fondest memories of my fatherhood experience, and hopefully one of my son's funnest moments.

My 19 month old son LOVES cars. We checked this book out from the library and it is definitely my son's favorite book. I put it on my Amazon wish list, so hopefully someone will buy it for us. We've renewed the one we have 3 times now! :) The book has a lot of simple pictures of cars, simple words, and even a bus. My son gets very excited about the last page which has cars, a bus, and an airplane. My Car is a bedtime story request almost every night.

My son received this as a gift when he was about 18 months old and absolutely loves it! It is a regular favorite... he loves the graphics and simple story line. He is almost two and loves to recite some of the lines and point out things in the nice, colorful yet simple pictures. Great book for boys!

Our twin toddlers love this book. The simple language and vivid illustrations are excellent.

This is a great book if your child is obsessed with cars as ours is. It explains all the car parts, and is very colorful. It's a cute little book. Very general.

My 17 month old son loves having this book read to him and pretending to read it. He already loves cars, so the subject is great. It has bright colors, the pages aren't too busy, and the words are simple. Great book. We have the trucks book too. We also have the trains book, which he got for a gift and is also great.

Chris Van Dusen is a marvelous illustrator/author who is able to think the way a kid thinks. "If I Built a Car" has been a favorite of all the young boys I know and a few girls too. Nope, I'm not Chris' mother. Just an avid fan.

I can't begin to say enough good things about this book by Chris van Dusen. His story about a boy on his quest to build the perfect car is genius. What an imagination! The illustrations alone would be reason enough to buy the book, but the catchy rhyming verse keeps you turning page after page to see what he will dream up next. I also loved the 1950's feel to the book that takes you back to a time when cars were cool, and the designs were slick. We have bought this book for other children that love books about cars, and it has always been a big hit.

The illustrations are my favorite part of this book. Amazing. The colors and shapes remind me of spending time with my grandparents. That alone is enough to make me love this book.

The poem is fun also. I plan to use this with my students for word choice and poetry. I think it will make a great read aloud. It did win the E.B. White Read Aloud Award a few years ago.

My daughters, ages 2 and 4, just love Chris VanDusen's books. The illustrations are colorful and fun and the text is a ball to read aloud. This particular book is about a boy imagining the car he would build to replace the family wagon. My kids loved finding mixed among the illustrations characters from VanDusen's Magee and Dee books.

My father bought this book for my boys over a year ago. It has become one of our favorite books EVER! I am in complete awe of the incredibly colorful pictures that fill this book. The rhyming flows off the tongue, and I find it so clever and fun to read. It is one of those books that I can actually read over and over again and not get sick of it! Outstanding and witty.

A wonderful book. I loved it as a child, and going back to read it as an adult I realize that there are a lot of things that I missed. I remember my teacher reading it aloud in class--wonderful!

The movie, although very nice, has only a superficial resemblance to the book. For one thing, it moves the time a generation or so back. For another, in the book both parents are alive, rather than Caracticus Pott's being a widower; consequently, there is no romance.

I could very well wish that a new movie be made, NOT a musical and following the original plot.

Just like when I was a kid at my moms knee listening to her read this to me I wsa again transported to another time. This audio is great. Kids and adults alike will fall inlove with this audio book. Some what diffrent than the movie staring Dick Van Dyke. which is always a welcome suprise.

It is a charming and delightful story that you will love to read to your children. I read this book to my 6 year old. She loved it!! We both wish we could find more books about this wonderful family and car.

I remember the 1968 movie based on this novel fondly, but had never picked up the novel itself until just the other day. I was surprised at how different the book is. Although Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang herself is very similar in both, the plot of the story is much different. I enjoyed this simple little story, with Fleming's humorous asides, very much. Those asides reminded me of the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books I have read and I would be interested in learning if Lemony Snicket drew from Fleming's story style for his own series. This is a fun, quick story that most kids will enjoy. I do, however, fear that the admittedly crude illustrations in my original edition would not be as popular with modern children.

The story of Caractacus Pott, his family, and that wonderful magical car is one of the best children's stories you will ever read. Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, tells a fantastic story about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the magical flying car that can even turn into a boat! It's a delightful story, filled with crooks and gangsters, and you won't be sorry you bought this fantastic little book. Should be added to every child's bookshelf. Just delightful! The book is so much better than the movie, eliminating that silly Vulgaria story. If you want to read the story Ian Fleming intended, you'll have to buy the book. You won't be sorry.

I bought this for my brother, who is 11, for Christmas. He already loves to draw cars. Being an artist myself, I looked through the book and I am sure that this will be a wonderful guide for my brother to develop his technique and skill.

The book shows you step by step how to draw cars.

This is a helpful book whether you are drawing for the first time or have been doing it for years!

It goes from simple shapes and line structure all the way through shading and adding detail.

Definitely a must for anyone who wants to add cars to their visual story telling or even an automotive design student.

Just remember to be patient with this book.

It takes a while to get the hang of it.

Once you do, you'll be fine!

This was a 9th Birthday present for my nephew. It kept him entertained for hours! He loved the book and still uses it almost daily after 8 months.

This book has many examples of step-by-step drawings. The only drawback might be that there is very little explanation. You learn mainly by copying the examples. It has a great selection of different cool cars and vehicles to draw. Equally good for young teens or adults.

I have the 1993 publication of this book, and it's amazing. It teaches you how to draw cars in general, not just the ones shown in the book.

bottom line... if you own a 911, and its in your blood, buy this book to better know your ride. 1st time owners, troubleshooters, and the diy audience will benefit

This is a must have book if you own a 1965-89 911. I found the book to be as detailed as a shop manual on the subjects it covers yet with the friendly writing that anyone can comprehend.

This book covers the basics like changing your oil to more complex tasks like fixing common oil leaks and fixing various transmission problems. -all with many excellent photos of the procedures outlined.

I've read and referred to this book countless times both for enjoyment and for reference to maintain my Porsche.

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO ADJUST VALVES IN YOUR PORSCHE PROBABLY A WASTE OF MONEY. IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST AND ARE LEARNING HOW TO WORK ON IT, ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Great reference book. Very user friendly and provides information and directions that are easy to follow and direct. Great for the "weekend" mechanic who just wants to work on his Porsche in his own garage at home.

Wow! This book was very helpful to me. I have 2 strikes against me when buying a car: 1) female 2.) black. It is true that car salesmen think women are push overs. I bought my first new car in 1989. Yes, I was taking advantage of. I feel I paid way to much for the car and the salesman did not work with me to lower the price. I bought another new car in 1992. I took a man with me, but I still feel we did not get the best deal. This book has enlightned me on how to negotiate, what to negotiate, and what not to say. I bought another new car and was able to use what I read from hassle free car buying. Thanks Jake!

The Hassle Free Car Buying book is a great book for the women of this world. It gives us the knowledge of haggling with the car dealers when trying to buy a car for yourself and not letting the car dealers take advantage of the females.

Just as Location, Location, Location is the most important thing in real estate, Knowledge, Knowledge, Knowledge is most important when making a competent purchase. The more expensive the item being purchased, the more important the knowledge.

A car is a very big item to purchase. The more you know, the better. Jake has made it possible to know more than ever the next time I, or you, go to buy a new car. I will have this book in my hip pocket and it will be well thumbed...unless, that is, I just let him do all the work for me on his new web site...oops, I maybe should not have let the cat out of the bag. When my son was 2, he could not get enough of this book - he asked for it every day and even carried it with him in the car. Of the many truck books for young boys, this one is especially appealing for a few reasons:
-Simple, bold illustrations are easy to look at.
-Just one sentence per page makes the book great for short attention spans.
-In very simple language, the book introduces different kinds of trucks and their purpose. (Oil truck, bucket truck, cement mixer, etc.)

Besides appealing to toddlers, I think this would be an excellent choice for boys who are beginning to read on their own.

We like this one... story is pretty cute, great drawings. Good book for toddler boys... my son enjoyed it from 18 months on.

Love this book for a 1, 2, or even 3 yo. Both my boys love(d) it. We just bought it as a gift.

We have about a half dozen Byron Barton board books, including this one, and they're tops in our house. I started buying them for my not-quite-4-year-old when he was about 9 month old. Then he loved to look at the pictures with me. Now, he and his little brother (18 months) both love them still. We have shelves and shelves of books, but these come out regularly for story time, particularly this one, Trains, Boats, and Planes. Highly recommended!

This little book is sturdy and uses vibrant colors to catch your little ones attention. The text is very simple, but there is a truck on every page! My two year old wants this one read over and over!!
