First off, artist Ellen Anne Eddy is amazing and this book shows her work with beautiful images. Descriptions are given about each piece with color choices and the technique(s) used. After page 60 the learning begins with clear written details on how to learn her techniques with excellent illustrations that compliment the writing - very useful when you practice on your own. A brief section on color theory is also provided as a reminder to help make your art even better along with a short segment on thread dying and drawing techniques. I have to say her work is truly unique, and with these guidelines I believe that other thread artists can utilize some of her techniques for their own design style.

I found this to be a charming project. Very versatile for making one block or many. Also, the possibilities were endless for decorating and using materials, buttons etc on hand. Instructions were clear and it could be easy (iron on ) or more experienced (hand appliqued completely.) I will be making several for next year. (Not enough time for this year)!

I can't wait to make this quilt. I saw one made up at a quilt show or something very similar and couldn't wait to find the pattern. It is just so clever and fun. My quilt group is planning on making it as a block of the month. I am so happy I bought this book, it makes me smile every time I look through it.

I loved this book from the very beginning but was entirely convinced it was a winner when my married daughter sat down to look at it. She has never done quilting and was excited by the book and loved it! She felt it was easy to understand and something she would buy. We both loved the style of the quilts and jumpstarted our imaginations.

I found this book in a used bookstore and I recognized the authors names, so I bought it..and am I glad I did!..I love this book!..I am constantly referring to it for invaluable techniques..I like the fact that they each has a different way of doing the techniques, because I have found that if Harriet's way doesn't work for me, then Sharon's usually does, and visa-versa..It is like having a quilt teacher right there with you...The directions are clear and concise.. An excellent, excellent book..Definately one of my all-time favorites

I got this book about 6 months ago and have refered to it numerous times as I have learned my way through my first quilts. I find it particularly helpful that I am getting perspective from two quilters, who have different quilting preferences and methods. Well worth the purchase and I am sure that it will be part of my library until I am old and gray.

Bended Bias Appliqué by Linda M. Poole is a must have for every quilters' library. Linda walks you through every step of the bias process. Bias appliqué adds a real punch to any quilt and Linda makes it easy to do. The pictures are clear and the instructions are easy to understand.

The quilts are absolutely stunning. I particularly love the dragonfly and hummingbird quilts. Also of particular interest are the directions for shaping your Celtic swirls before appliquéing them to your background. What a marvelous idea!

I am thrilled to have Bended Bias Appliqué in my library and am eagerly looking forward to the release of Linda's new book "Quilted Fairie Tales."

Linda Poole's latest book about using bias binding is just incredible. Her techniques make it so easy to create beauty! I especially like the simplicity of making complicated looking Celtic designs. Her instructions on making your own bias are super and really save a lot of money. Plus....you can exactly match or contrast your project with the exact bias you want. A really must have book for the appliquer, or person wanting to learn applique. Her patterns are great, or you can use her techniques with your own designs.

I saw Jan Mullen's booth at a quilt show and was bowled over by her quilts! Her combination of eye opening color and wacky style was a refreshing break from booth after booth of corner-matching, precision cut handiwork. I bought this book on the spot and made two quilt tops the following week! Mullen's instructions are incredibly clear and simple to follow, and though some designs are easier than others, her "stack and whack" method makes for quick piecing. Give it a try and let loose your "wicked wayz"!!!!!

This is a great book for the beginner(which I am) all the way up to advanced. I love the choice of colors that Jan Mullen uses, as well as her ('ish') method. For instance in this book, no 1/4" seam allowance . . . it is 1/4ish" seam allowance. It is fun, and takes on a whole new approach on quilting, no straight lines, everything is 'askew' but ends up a straight square.

Nothing but Fun/bright quilts in here!

I have made 2 of the Milky Wayz quilt from the book and they are so fun and easy. Jan's directions and pictures were very easy to follow. This would be a great technique for a beginner since you don't have to worry so much about matching. The best thing about Jan's method is that the cutting part (which I hate) is much shorter since your pieces are all 4"-ish or 5"-ish and so on. Plus it's fun to just cut at wacky angles and it gives your quilts a quirky fun element. Great for quilts for kids.
I can't wait to make another quilt from the book.

I have owned this book for several years and go back to it all the time for inspiration. I have about 10 quilt books and I use this one the most; the colors and patterns always give me lots of ideas, especially when I find bright and fun fabrics to start with. I also love not having to be so precise with seam allowances during block assembly.

I had already read the first three books and loved them. I couldn't wait to read more. I was not dissapointed, the second three were just as good as the first three books. I like the fact that each book continues on from the last and also delves into the past. I am currently reading the eighth in the series and I have enjoyed all of them so far. I look forward to reading the next four.

Here is a wonderful series of 3 books on the Elm Creek Quilts and Sylvia Compson. In Runaway Quilt, here is the story told in both the earlier days and current times concerning quilts used to help runaway slaves in the underground railway. What does a quilt hanging on the clothesline mean and why are the centers of the log cabins black? This is both a fascinating story and one that takes us back in time giving us some historical perspective.

A Quilter's Legacy is just that, what quilt legacy has Eleanor Bergstrom left for her daughter, Sylvia? Here we read about Sylvia and Andrew traveling the US both to see his family(do we hear wedding bells in their future?). Sarah has found a website for missing quilts and has entered her drawings and info on Sylvia's quilts of which I believe there were 5 she knew were ones that Claudia had sold. What happens to the quilts, where are some found and what condition is like a mystery unfolding. Of course it won't be all good news but there are many twists and turns.

The last book is the Master Quilter. Sylvia and Andrew marry without the help of the Elm Creek Quilters except for Sarah and Matt. Being caught off guard, the quilters decide to make a wedding quilt from 12 x 12 blocks that are submitted by anyone who has known Sylvia or has been to Quilt Camp. The lives are other members of the Elm Creek Quilters are further developed with some finding many challenges such as Bonnie or Judy. In the midst of this there is funny scene with Mary Beth Callahan and Diane at Quilt Guild meeting along with an unfortunate robbery. This book really spices up the lives of the quilters.

Once again these three books make for great reading no matter if this is the first of the series you have read. So sit down with some tea and enjoy a good read!

You don't have to be a quilter to enjoy the three stories combined in this volume. Novels 4, 5, and 6 in the Elm Creek Quilters series by Jennifer Chiaverini do not disappoint. If you enjoyed the first 3 novels in the series, you will enjoy continuing the saga in these next 3. I especially enjoyed the first story in this volume ("The Runaway Quilt"). Historical fiction lovers will especially appreciate this riveting story pertaining to the Underground Railroad during the Civil War era. Many thanks to Ms. Chiaverini for continuing to bring us more and more stories in this marvelous series.

I will never make any of the sample quilts Sally Collins gives directions for in this book--miniatures aren't my thing. But her detailed descriptions of how to make templates that work, how to cut, how to pin, how to press, every step of the way, are incredibly valuable for any project I undertake. Her instructions will improve my every single sewing project for the rest of my life.
It's worth noting that she lists tools that no local store carries, and her list of sources in back wasn't really helpful. I found stuff at at least four different sites by googling the particular item.

This is as good, if not better, than the author's first book, Quilts for Baby, Easy as ABC. This book has more quick and easy patterns in wonderful colorful fabrics. And they make great quilts for other family members too, not just babies - just add a few more blocks to make them larger.

Easy enough for kids to do

Review Date: 2003-08-15
I have purchased tons of books for teaching kids how to quilt but none have been as easy as this. The publisher missed out on part of the market. The blocks are so simple the book should be available for children learning how to quilt.

I made one of the quilts based on the X-quisite block. I can honestly say that it took longer to pick the fabric than it took to make the quilt. I finished it in half a day (shhh - don't tell), machine tied and bound.

Perfect for beginners or people who want to make something special without a lot of time and fuss. The blocks rely on really great "conversational prints" to make the quilts work.
Change the print and have a lap quilt for an older person or pet quilt. It is also very easy to figure out how much fabric you need to make the quilt bigger so you can't go wrong.

It isn't just for babies - and it's so easy you will wonder what you were waiting for. If you have made a quilt before, get started today and don't be surprised if you finish it today. If you are a beginner, this is a great place to start.

A book full of wonderful, colorful, easy quilts.
