Paint with fabrics!!

To say the truth, the book cover was tempting and I couldn't resist buying the book just for the floral design on its cover. I was expecting a full sheet of patterns for all floral quilts in the book. I got disappointed when I found just only 4 patterns and are not for the quilts included in the book. When I started reading, I understood why. Nancy Pearson is a talented artist and a TEACHER. She is teaching you in her book, step by step, all what you NEED to paint with fabrics and create your OWN designs. I was overwhelmed by her way of explaining every single detail, starting from the fabric choices, through the overall design of the quilt. I liked her way of giving examples from the floral quilts included in the book for each line in her explanations. This book is simbly the BEST I read regarding floral applique and I highly recommend it for quilters in all levels.

Reccomended by the accidental quilter
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 10 total.

This is a hardcopy of The Florida Quilt Heritage Project. It IS NOT a how to quilt manual, rather a volume that traces Florida quilts and their makers through the history of the state. It begins with the quilts of early America and ends in 1988. The color plates are lovely and particularly clear for photographs taken before the advent of the digital age. There are black and white vintage photos of early quiltmakers scattered throughout the book. I bought this book for my personal library because I wanted to see how quiltmaking in Florida changed over this period of time.

The instructions are clear and easy and the patterns are also not difficult. I would recommend this book to beginning quilters, or to people who love simple designs.

In Foolproof Curves, needlecraft expert Barbara Barber simplifies the quilter's task of producing curved seams, updating her prior out-of-print title Really Sharp Piecing and showing how to use foundation piecing to make accurate curved designs. This covers sample projects and her latest methods for creating curved piece appearances without piecing a curve. Beginners will find these projects most accessible.

Where faith and fiction meet: a wonderful novel where you get to "become" the characters in this book, and where faith is mixed throughout.

Which birdhouse or bird feeder will you do first??!!! lol
Helpful Votes: 14 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 2003-11-05
Just try choosing which project to do FIRST - they're all so pretty!!

If I'm counting correctly, there are 10 birdhouse designs, 7 bird feeders, and 5 filler blocks. All blocks are shown with FULL color photographs, and the birdhouse/feeder blocks are shown as completed projects, with borders/sashing/binding, so you get great finishing ideas, and great color suggestions.

The patterns each include a color photograph, a chart with the fabric key, sewing order, and suggestions for block embellishments. The pattern itself is full size, but does not include the seam allowances, nor are the multi-piece patterns already separated for you. The author has used dashed lines to delineate the different pieces in the multi-piece patterns (in comparison to other books just showing BOLD lines, which are hard to differentiate from the other pattern lines - at least - for ME). The individual sections of each pattern are clearly labelled with the section number and the fabric key. If you have NOT done paper piecing before, there is a large information section at the front with LOTS of instructions and drawings - even people experienced with paper piecing will find these instructions helpful!

In addition to the 20+ block designs, you will find 6 "Individual Block Wall Hangings" - with full color pictures, clear and detailed instructions with drawings - even a Christmas design!!

My hat is off to Jaynette Huff - what a fabulous book :). (But please, consider putting block sizes and seam allowances on your patterns, lol).

A great resource for the paperpiecing enthusiast. From the editors of Quilts with Style magazine, this is a collection of patterns from their first magazine, The Foundation Piecer. The patterns range from beginner to advanced and include a block of the month series.

I really like this book. I especially love the Log Cabin Quilt.
I teach quilting and I am going to be teaching a class using this book, so I was happy to find 15 copies on Amazon from various sellers...otherwise, the book is very hard to find.

I loved this book. I borrowed it from the library and now I'm going to buy it even though it is a bit dated. It has just the ideas I need for a gift-giving party.
