This book has many paper piece patterns that could make up any hundreds of quilts. The book has many colorful pictures of quilts finished for inspiration. I have made several quilts using this book and still go back to it often. I would recommend this book to beginning and veteran paper piecer's.

Gotta own this book!

I just completed a wall quilt, and using this wonderful book, I picked up several new skills which saved time and added up to a very nicely finished product! I currently have this book out on loan from my library, and they are sending me letters threatening to refer me to a collection agency if I do not return it right away... but the thought of continuing to work on the quilt without the book was even more frightening to me! Now that it's finished, I'm ready to head to the library, and place my order for my very own copy. I'll never quilt again without it!

Must Have For Quilters

I love this book!! Gives detailed "how to" explanations with drawings and photos on all types of techniques -- from construction of a simple four-patch block to an intricate Seminole patchwork, with all types in between including crazy quilts, biscuits, etc. Also explains how to achieve special effects such as piping, prairie points, folded patchwork, all types of applique (hand, machine, reverse, Hawaiian, etc.), plus common and unusual quilting effects (Italian quilting, sashiko, and trapunto) and finishing techniques (assembling, binding, displaying, maintaining). Nice sections on the traditional and the newer "art" quilts and fabric topics like pattern, rhythm, texture, images, etc. Great quick reference as a refresher for the easiest and best approach or as inspiration/instructions for trying something totally new.

If you love to quilt or you're just starting to dabble in quilting. Try to get a copy of this one! This is everything you need all rolled into one. The contents are very helpful and instructional for the novice to the expert in the art. It has faboulous step by step pictures. I think it's like having a private instructor at finger tips.... This is a book you can pass on to future quilters or would make a great gift.

When I worked at a quilt shop, I kept coming across this book. I wasn't impressed by the cover or the fabrics used in making the sample blocks(probably because I like bright colors). But I was drawn to the book and purchased it one night before I left work. I am so glad I did. I LOVE THIS BOOK. It is simple, precise and fast. I immediately made several quilts using this book. Nancy does a wonderful job of laying out exact directions. Each block has instructions for making one (as a sample). In the back, listed under the name of the block, are directions for an entire quilt. This truly is a No-Fail book. No extra junk, just down to business, get this cut out and lets get a quilt made. She has some neat ideas about combining the blocks for a unique quilt. My son-in-law loves the "Stars Adrift" I did for him in his alma mater colors. I love to recommend and give this book as a gift. I don't ever loan mine out, it is too valuable.

Inspirational and beautiful

This book is an in-depth look at the development of one quilt artist, Erika Carter. In the introduction on page 6 Rick Gottas of the American Art Company says, "Few works of art are more satisfying to see installed than Erika Carter's fine art quilts." Behind these words is a picture of a gallery show revealing four of Erika's quilts. The effect is amazing, more beautiful to the eye than almost any gallery show I have attended.
Erika's style is incredibly painterly in style, to the point where on her latest quilts I have to look hard to see how she's achieved her results with fabric. Her designs are colorful, but as the years go by they become progressively more subtle. It's fascinating to watch as she moves from traditional patchwork to strips of trapezoids, delicate lines suggesting trees and grass until her most recent and incredibly delicate work with the softest of colors.
Although the book contains no how-to instructions, any quilter interested in art quilts will gather ideas. This is the sort of book to keep by the bed or bath, to study at leisure.
