Quilting Books

As the description indicates, this is a showcase book, full of color pictures of the quilts that were part of the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center exhibition in 2001. Each page has a large color photo of a quilt, with a brief paragraph on where the artist found the inspiration to create it and the materials used. Do not buy this book if you are looking for how-to instructions on making a quilt. Do buy this book if you are the type who loves to pour over pictures and be inspired by the creativity of others. This is over 100 pages of truely lush eye candy! Also, if you like this sort of thing, be sure to look for the earlier Dairy Barn Quilt National books (some of which may be ordered directly from them if Amazon doesn't have them), and also check out the Fiberarts series of books. You will have to have them all.

Landauer's Best-Loved Designs Weekend Quilts Crafts is an enjoyable sampler collection of 65 quilts and coordinating projects that apply colorful fabrics, dimensional applique, and many more and very special needlecraft embellishments. The beloved home and country motifs add a warm hearted touch to each of these needlecraft projects, each of which is presented by one of America's top designers. Color photographs, detailed diagrams and patterns, extensive instructions, as well as diverse tips, tricks, techniques make Best-Loved Designs Weekend Quilts Crafts a superb source book for the avid quilter.

Although it's one of Pat Sloan's older books, this is my favorite - lots of great patterns, more bang for the buck. Most of her newer books are done around one of her fabric collections - this one uses fabrics you are likely to have in your stash already.

Leslie Beck's Best Of The Best Quilts presents patterns, designs, and meticulous, step-by-step instructions for 36 superb patchwork quilts. Eye-catching color illustrations and meticulous attention to detail characterize this first-rate guide for quilters in search of aesthetically pleasing projects. Leslie Beck's Best Of The Best Quilts is an enthusiastically recommended contribution to any personal or community library needlecraft collection.

I love Lynette Jensen and Thimbleberries. The problem is if you already own "At Home with Thimbleberries Quilts" and "The Thimbleberries Book of Quilts" than you already own "The Best Quilts from Thimbleberries". Both books are loaded with great ideas and how-to's Lynette Jensen style. I'd buy them both again should they be lost or stolen, I just don't see the need to own two copies! This could be a great value if you don't already have these books in your collection.

If you love traditional quilt patterns, then this is the book for you. Many books give you an overview of only one type of quilt but this one has a great selection. My favorite is the section on crazy quilts and what type of stitches were used but there are also many kinds of traditional pieces blocks. Not only beautiful pictures of these quilts but also how to actually make the blocks and put together these great tradition quilts. There are over 70 patterns included. I love it.

This collection of quilts covers the span from beginner to advanced quilter. The directions are accurate and clear. The pictures are beautiful thus making the books not only a great resource but also very readable.

This book is a practical handbook for making quilts. It lays out each project with clarity and order. Projects are broken down into sizes, materials needed and also variations in color. The colorful pictures of the quilts help the quilter envision the end product. The templates in the back are useful for creating your own quilt. The book is simply laid out and easy to follow.

My first quilt projects came out of this book. They were gifts for my family and such a hit! It has a nice variety of quilts ranging from very simple to more complex. Whether you are new to quilting or just looking for something kids will like this is a great selection. Directions are easy to understand and very detailed for those new to techniques.

I've used this book so much I had to take the embroidery section out an use it separately it's so great. A good starter book for learning patchwork. Very good instructions.
