Jeana has done it again, what a superb source of knowledge and inspiration for any applique enthusiast. Vintage & Heirloom, of course that is what these Red, Green and Applique album quilts were all about, but ANYONE making any quilt can learn from this book. The method Jeana gives & shows in super step/step diagrams is broad, yet concise enough to teach anyone with the basic knowledge of quilting and applique techniques, how to do things in her streamlined and efficient method.
Since learning Jeana's method of Applique, I have not done any other type of preparation and fussing. I live to applique and have ONLY Jeana to thank for it. This book is just an encore to her Red & Green applique book in my opinion. Just a super follow up to a star performance. Icing on the cake. Thanks Jeana

more great stuff from piece o'cake

I love pretty much everything Piece O'Cake has ever done and this book is a good reference for applique. Even though I've done lots of applique and tried many different techniques, I still learned a few things from this book. Each block in the sampler quilt presented teaches a different skill, and builds on the previous blocks. The project is not too large and therefore is not too daunting. Some instructions are also given for machine applique, but the emphasis is on hand applique. If you've ever wanted to try hand applique, this is a great book to get you started.

I am not a beginning quilter, but I do not consider myself experienced yet. Although I usually machine quilt, I used Tonee's book to make a quick wallhanging as a thank you gift. The result was great, and I had a wonderful time. Her ideas can be adapted to many different projects. I have since purchased her Christmas book.

i cannot tell you how impressed i am with joyce mori's work. i have two of her other books, which are also inspiring.

this wonderful new book of designs taken from around the world and throughout history will inspire quilting and applique, and beadwork, and embroidery, and maybe even stencilling.

the designs come from borneo to norway, from the bronze age to the 1890s, from pottery, cloth, carved wood, metal work. many are shown in more than one arrangement, some have been developed into continuous line designs good for machine quilting. all the designs are broken outlines, to suggest hand quilting. this particular volume does not have finished examples of quilting or applique.

this is a fantastic resource for any designer on any level, not just quilters.

An explanation of magnificient art
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-10
I purchased this book because I was fascinated by the design and color of tivaevae. But what makes this book endearing is the personal stories of the people who practice this art and are trying to keep this important aspect of Pacific Island culture alive.

If you are travelling to the Cook Islands and want to experience something off the well worn Lonely Planet path, ask a local to see her tivaevae. The people in the Cook Islands are the nicest I've met and if they have tivaevae in their homes, they probably will have no qualms about sharing the story of these amazing quilts with you. You can also travel to the Cook Islands and learn to make these quilts. They also have festivals sometimes displaying the more remarkable tivaevae. Even if you aren't into quilting, this book is excellent for learning about a unique aspect of island culture.

If you are looking for fiction about the islands, look at Frangipani: A Novel.
