What a wonderful and charming book to read. Pepper Cory writes in a easy going manner that makes a person feel like she is right in the room with you. Great ideas on making templates and marking a quilt. I love how she discusses methods of the past as well as the future. It is also fun to look at the older quilts and see the methods as well as read about them. She shows patterns and methods from all over the world, and takes the mystery out of marking a quilt. She encourages a quilter to be creative and take chances, and I plan on taking her up on it. This book is a definite must have for any quilters' library.

This book was wonderful for teaching me how to better mark my quilts. I'm always nervous whenever I mark a quilt, but this book helped me know what markers to use in which situations. I also loved the new quilting designs in the book. Highly recommnded!

I always enjoy a good quilt book, particularly when there is historical evidence involved. Ms. Tomlonson did an excellent job of incorporating the historical information with the quilts shown.

All too brief encounter with Brethren quiltmakers

This is an absolutely beautiful book, with full color images of both Mennonie quilts and the landscape of "Amish Country." My only complaint is that it's much too short! The paperbound book is about 125 pages long, and almost exactly the style, size and format of the Amish quilt books by Rachel and Ken Pellman. The story of each quilt is given, whether as just a name, year and current owner, or through a short reminiscence regarding the quilt or its maker. Readers are immediately drawn into the feeling of simplicity, peace, thrift, and heritage as they are treated to lovely photographs of the natural world that surrounds the daily lives of the Mennonite quilters. The quilts themselves, done in slightly more "worldly" fabrics and patterns than their Amish neighbors, will inspire and dazzle you. I love making quilts with traditional designs, such as "Broken Star," "Harvest Sun," "Tumbling Blocks," and "Cactus Basket," all of which I have made or am currently working on. This book is my well-worn reference, my inspiration, my small window to the Mennonite world, and my source of serenity when I find myself going from design hunt page turning to reading the engaging text. If you love traditional quiltmaking as much as I do and can manage to find a copy of this book (now out of print), you will be so very glad you did.

This wonderful book not only teaches you about quilts, it also teaches you about the state of Mississippi history. I learned facts I had not known. Such as, Mississippi was one of the five wealthiest states in the Union before the Civil War. And of course this was from the cotton plantations, which supplied the cotton to make quilts. A must read for anyone interested in antiquity of our state.

Distinctive & clear

More Quick Rotary Cutter Quilts has several quilts that are distinctive & wonderful to looks at - you will find very few of these patterns in other quilt books. There are sheep quilts, frogs, dinosaurs, butterflies, teapots and hot air balloons as well as more traditional blocks like around the world & the pinwheel. The pictures of the sample quilts are clear & detailed. The cutting and assembly instructions are clear & accurate as well. I would recommend this for any quilter, beginner through advanced, who is inspired by quilts with bright colors, or by non-traditional blocks.

Excellent!!! Pam Bono scores again!!!

Whenever I buy a quilting book (which isn't very often because many of them are more of the same patterns) I look for the name Pam Bono. Her designs are unique. The instructions are clear and if they are followed, end with a quilt that can be displayed with pride. The blocks use enough variation in technique and color that I am never bored while I am piecing. Thank-you so much for sharing your gift!

Even more great watercolor projects

I have owned this book since it first came out. I keep returning to it for projects and basic sewing and quilting instructions--like how to sew the ends of binding together so there are no lumps. I especially loved the Diamond Jubilee design shown on the back cover and opposite the table of contents page. Although the pattern wasn't written up in the book, I was able to count the squares and recreate it. (The pattern is now available in quilt shops.) Try the triangle technique for the nosegays and beautiful ribbon border. Definitely a book to buy!

Dina has outdone herself, again. Her creativity, and talent for design and color selection, produced another beautiful book. Again, her instructions are clear and concise. She shares her ability to select fabrics that compliment each other beautifully. I didn't have any interest in watercolor quilts until I discovered Dina's books. If you love beautiful watercolor quilts, but were intimidated by sewing so many little squares together, try Dina's method. You'll be hooked!

A wonderful story and first quilting book!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-24
I found this book in our school library recently. The story is the one of the animals boarding Noah's ark. The illustrations are part of a larger quilt. Its really a beautiful book on its own. In the back cover, the peices for the quilt are drawn out for you in a canvass/cotton material. You can make your own quilt exactly as it is pictured in the book. I had to buy this book used because it is out of print. I am so pleased to find a book that will help me teach my neice how to quilt! The squares are small, and the quilt is about a metre long by half a metre wide. But the use of patchwork divies the work into smaller increments that beginners can take-up and put-down as needed!

Another kind of Noah's Ark book

As a collector of Noah's Ark books and also a quilter this book is very special to me. Janet Bolton has made an old fashioned, country style appliqued quilt of the story of Mrs. Noah. As the story goes on, so goes the sewing of the quilt. Each page has a picture of an appliqued quilt block and a few written lines about Mr. and Mrs. Noah.
On the backcover of the book there is a special pocket containing fabric with the drawing of the block patters already printed on, and there are also instructions on how to make the quilt.
A perfect book to read with your child, or just read yourself. And a perfect workbook on how to make the cutest Moah's Ark quilt.

This is one of the CUTEST paper-piecing pattern books I've seen in a long time. Lots of blocks, lots of patterns and project ideas, and good instructions. I found it absolutely charming! - I've been recommending it to foundation-piecing loving students! If you need something special for your sewing room, or for sewing friends, this one is well worth the cost.

Should Be Passed Down From Generation to Generation

I read "No Dragons On My Quilt" to my daughter about 12 years ago after borrowing it from a library. Of course we ordered our very own copy. Back then we got it in hardback. Our whole family loves the book so much that we tried to order an extra copy for my son a few years ago. We wanted copies for each child to be passed down to their own kids when they were grown. (It is that kind of book.) We were able to get the second copy only in paperback since it no longer comes in hardback. It is a great book about a child whose grandmother calms his fears by making him a quilt and by just being there for him. My children are 14 and 10 and will never stop wanting this book read to them. It is a classic.

Update 11/2003: My son's school is using the book for a unit on quilts in the first grade classes. They are working to construct a quilt that can have the squares velcroed on to a plain quilt. The media specialist will read the book to the kids and they will be able to put it together at the end.
