I bought this book, thinking I would make one or two of the designs. I was wrong. I've made most of the designs and embellished
on many more. This is a starting place for creative clothing that never stops. It is a must read for people who love creative
clothing.
Great Ideas!

If you like making clothing for kids, this book is a must-read! I was not crazy about the color combinations used in the
book but the ideas and techniques are original and inspiring. Very cute ideas that can easily be expanded upon.

I am a beginner and had never made anything bigger than a small cozy lap quilt so this review is basically for beginners.
I had bought this book because I loved the curving circle look without ever having to actually sew on a curve. I had the
book for a while even before I attempted the pattern. What propelled me into finally sewing it was I opened by big mouth
and said I would make the next annual quilt for the family reunion. Never having made a full size quilt top I wanted to make
something different from what I has seen at reunions past so I turned to this book. It saved the day.
I started out making a copy of the planning quilt page, which you have permission to, in order to color and design your quilt. This was helpful to me as I colored in my design and stuck a few fabric snippets of what I already had on the design block before I went to the fabric store and it gave me a focus of what I was looking for. Of course all the yardage was already figured in the book for which ever design you wish to do. I don't think my brain had to strain a bit with this book.
You do need to have a Kaleidoscope ruler. I did not have the specific Quilt-In-A-Day Kaleidoscope ruler stated in the book. I did have a Marti Michell Kaleido-Ruler which is a diagonal half of a square with a rich amount of versatile markings for all kinds of triangle type pieces and it also measures in block sizes that the cut piece will make. This made it easy for me. I wanted 8 inch blocks and I did not have to think any harder than looking at the line on the ruler. You also need a 6" x 24" long ruler and a large squaring ruler to square up your blocks.
In cutting and sewing I followed it step by step. Simple instructions, not too wordy, a picture with every step. It is all the same style block just with different color positioning. For all the quilts in the book it will show you on a page every type of block you need for that specific quilt. That page is actually after the build a block instruction pages so for a beginner be sure to look at the whole book page by page before you start your project. Consume it as a whole then break it down to your project you have decided on. I did make some mistakes along the way, not many but a few, usually grabbing from the wrong block pile in putting it together but was easily noticed and fixed. The only difficult part I would say is making sure the inside of the star where the points come together was not bulky. If I made sure I fingerpressed the seams just the way the book showed me and made sure when sewing they did not flip over then it was all fine. I of course could not complete the quilt in a day. If I could complete anything in one day then polar bears would be sipping wine coolers in Maui. I did complete it in record time for me.
When I took the finished quilt to the reunion it was a smash. They all thought I had done something blue ribbon worthy. I did not tell them that was my first queen size project I had ever made. That is what I like about the Kaleidoscope pattern, it looks complicated and impressive for those that don't dabble in quilt making. If you know about quilts I am sure the ease of it is written on the wall but it is something about the illusion of a circle that makes some think it is more complicated beyond what it really is. This book made it easy and understandable. As you dabble more in this pattern you can create some pretty imaginative schemes and I can only wonder what a highly skilled quilter could dream up with it.

This book will take you back to the days when your mom's dishcloths were all decorated with embroidery. It was made for redwork
lovers, but may also be done in a variety of colors. Make a quilt, decorate a tote bag or take yourself back to the thirties
and make a dishcloth like Grandma used to. You'll want to make each pattern.

I found Lavish Legacies to be a very scholarly book with an inviting style of writing. The history of Baltimore Album quilts
and others was wonderfully presented. The pictures of the quilts are breathtaking--capturing the fabric, craftmanship, and
patina beautifully. I would highly recommend this book. It is a historic quilt book based on research from the experts
(past and present) who have loved these these quilts for over one hundred and fifty years--which I think adds to the charm
and preservation of the quilts.

Our quilt guild makes quilts to give to adults for half the year and to sick children the other half.. I found this book
just in time for us to start on the baby quilts. We are always looking for fresh ideas and LICKEY-SPLIT QUILTS FOR LITTLE
ONES does just that.
Big blocks and cute patterns are the basis for these quilts. What child wouldn't love to have their very own elephant? Or if they are like the movie The Wizard of Oz, how about their own Tin Man? These are only two of the 15 quilts Ms. Bevan has provided in her book.
As most quilters are visual people, this book has plenty of color photos of each project along with graphics of the various steps in making the quilt. A materials and cutting list start each set of instructions. Making the blocks, assembling the quilt and finishing suggestions are provided as well. All are clearly written and easy to follow. I love the way the tips are shown - each is in a box with a lit light bulb! Very cute. Basic quilt making instructions cover nine pages so check it out if you have forgotten how to do something or need a refresher course or have a beginner in your group.
There are several paragraphs about the author which I always enjoy reading. In most books, I find there is a project or two that are just not me but not this book. I plan to have our guild make every one. They will warm a sick child's heart as well as they body.

cakes and more that go well with 20 block 'recipes' of easy diagrams. Cooks will find this as appealing as quilters, making
this a fine gift-giving choice for that quilter-cook who loves both hobbies.

Quilts and chocolate - they just go together. This box is made of sturdy materials with a magnetic closure. It contains
20 cards. Each has a recipe for a LUCIOUS chocolate dessert and one quilt block. The face of the card gives the name of
the dessert, a "good enough to eat" photo and a paragraph about the dessert.
The back of the card provides the ingredients, and directions for creating the chocolate temptation. At the bottom of this side, there is a quilt block with the name of the block and the size of each piece needed to make it.
There is a content card listing the dessert and block name that appears on each card. The reverse side of the content card gives basic instructions for making the quilt block.
All in all, THE LITTLE BOX OF QUILTER'S CHOCOLATE DESSERTS is a great gift for a quilter, a chocolate lover (aren't they the same thing?) or a person who loves to cook. With 20 blocks, you can make 20 quilts plus mix and match the blocks to make 20 plus more!

The instructions are very well laid out and easy to understand. I am a relatively new quilter, and am making the cover quilt
right now. For the cover quilt, Evelyn takes what appears to be a rather complicated pattern, and breaks it down into enjoyable
portions. She is an excellent teacher, if you ever have the opportunity...take one of her classes, but until then...this
book is a MUST have!
An excellent quilting resource!

the results. Watch for more from this talented teacher and author!

Still my favorite book on log cabin quilts, this little book will give you lots of ideas on what you can do with this classic
technique. I love the two pages of color photographs showing just some of the different ways you can arrange a set of blocks.
There are also many ideas on variations like hexagonal blocks or triangular blocks - such fun to play with! The instructions
are not as detailed as you will find in other books, but I give this book five stars for being so inspiring.
