The natural world has always been one of humanity's greatest inspirations. "Table Toppers: Celebrating the Great Outdoors" is a guide packed with great quilting ideas, inspired by the outdoor world. Taking patterns from plant life such as flowers and trees, and even drawing inspiration from outdoor activities such as ice skating, "Table Toppers" features almost twenty easily executed projects, one hundred and fifty patterns, and over a hundred full color photographs. A must for any quilter who loves the outside world, and recommended for community library needlecraft shelves.

This book includes a great variety of patterns in various sizes--pillow, wall hanging and larger quilt sizes. There are also a great number of pictures and many have patterns in the back. I have not made any of the patterns in this book however I have made about 15-18 designs from other Poakalani books am still comfortable giving this book a great review. If you've read other books by Poakalani than you will be familiar with her background and techniques offered for this style of quilting. This book does go further into depth about Hawaiian quilting and shows a much wider variety of Hawaiian quilts/patterns than other Poakalani books--this book will add to your Hawaiian quilt pattern collection and knowledge/foundation. The patterns range from beginner level to advanced-intermediate. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys applique. I would love to see Poakalani or another Hawaiian quilt artist write a book about how to design my own Hawaiian quilt design.

Although being a novice at hand applique, this is truly a stuuning project. I made the smaller wall quilt version and have been deluged with compliments. I highly recommend this book. The patterns are complete, the pieces are easy to applique, even for a beginner. If you love hand applique and fine hand quilting, give this pattern a try.

for another quilter. The patterns are easily adapted for hand
quilting or machine quilting. Several seasonal patterns included

This is by far my favorite quilting book. Time and time again I sit down and go through the beautiful colored pages admiring the wonderful quilts. There are several smaller projects such as wall hangings, pot holders, pillows and a table runner. This book has complete instructions with easy to follow diagrams for each project. The Table of Contents is beautifully organized and even has a small colored picture of each project which saves time when you have forgotten the name of the pattern you are looking for. In the back of the book the General Instructions has information helpful for the novice (like me) or for the experienced quilter (like my sister) who recommended this book to me.

If you have any interest in learning new ways to make your quilts interesting and original, this is the book for you. It gives clear, full-color directions on techniques like skewed piecing, super-easy Drunkard's Path blocks, jigsaw piecing, and curved piecing done several ways (with templates, with rotary-cut gentle curves, with topstitching, and sharp curves with register marks.) It is great to use with batiks and hand-dyes, or with your more unusual prints. I can hardly wait to get started!

This book is an excellent summary of the whole quilt process

I found this book by far the best description of the whole process of constructing a quilt I have ever used. It covers the process from choosing a pattern, batt, material and thread, through the preparation for quilting, to the quality of the stitching and the finishing. If you buy only one book on how to actually make a quilt, buy this one.

This book offers many tips and hints on how to make your work neater and correct ways for stitching. It also has color pictures and directions which are easy to follow. Some of the projects offered in this book are needle case (which I'm working on now), bookmark (I plan to make this after the case), sampler, sachet bag, etc. I found this book well worth the money!
