10 minature (or enlarge to bed sized) quilts
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.

MINATURE QUILTS contains 10 quilt patterns of which seven are done by paper piecing. I am not a fan of paper piecing but do like each of the quilts. Of the seven that are paper piecing, four of them could be done by rotary cutting. I may just have to give in and do a paper pieced quilt as I love the Little Houses pattern. Such fun and children of all ages will love these funky little houses. You could even make more squares and create a bed quilt for that special "child" (young or old) in your life.

The colors are bright and funky but of course color schemes are in the eyes of the beholder. Just change the fabrics to suit your tastes and you have 10 great pieces to hang on your wall or give as gifts. Each pattern has a materials list, cutting instructions and directions and the last page gives general directions on quilt-making. Be sure to check the back cover as a corrected pattern piece is included there.

For a small price, you will have lots of fun quilts to make.

I use this book every time I work on a quilt. The descriptions are easy to understand and the results are great. With this book I learned how to miter my borders as well as the binding and this technique has given my quilts a more sophisticated look. I consider myself a beginner-intermediate quilter so if I can uderstand this book anyone can!

Like having an experienced friend at your elbow

Whenever you begin to learn a new skill -- whether it's cooking, quilting, or computer programming -- the best asset to have is a friend standing next to you, showing you the details. ("No, move it more to the left!" or "The dough should feel like _this_.") Alas, we don't always have someone to call upon, so we turn to books written by experts. Often, they know their skill... but are imperfect at getting the point across.

That's not a problem here. "Finish It With Alex Anderson" is very much like having a friend standing at your side. While it includes 6 full quilt projects (they're nice, but not astonishing), the primary emphasis of this book is on -- as promised -- the steps in finishing a quilt, making good design choices for borders and other "edgy" issues.

I'm a rank beginner at quilting, and I've gotten confused over the stupidest things. For example, I know that it's easy to miter corners on the binding... once you know how. Most books give an arm wave to what's involved, as if you've seen it done and simply need a reminder. Alex Anderson's shows several different ways to bind a quilt, with so many pictures that I can't do it wrong. And, in fact, I didn't; my binding looks great, and I finally understand what I'd missed before.

Great book. This one won't get far from the sewing machine.

A great new way to create a beautiful quilt if someone doesn't like to applique with templates. The results are truly different, but very easy to achieve. I would recommend this book to my friends. I just checked it out at the local library last night and am ready to purchase it.

The service was just fine. Book in good condition- arrived on time.

But Amazon must make their review process easier or no one will want to use it. Who would want to do a lot of work for a USED book purchase?

Spectacular Designs and Colors!

I borrowed this book from a friend and was amazed by the wonderful designs and use of color. The authors used a very unique and original method of arranging the appliqued designs. The designs in this book are interesting new twists on traditional designs like the pomegranate and other floral designs. One of the things that I found most interesting was that the backgrounds of the designs are pieced with fabrics of similar hues, tones, and colors which helped to enrich the design and add interest. All of the designs are applique.

If you're looking for a book on applique that is different then a lot of other books out there then this is the one! This book has imagination, spunk, color, and originality. I cannot wait to buy my own copy!

I bought this book used on eBay. When I saw the cover, I knew I had to have it. First of all, there are plenty of how-to photos in color, explaining how to paper piece. It can be difficult to learn how to paper piece, but once you learn, it's like riding a bike ... you don't forget. But it does take time to figure it out. There are 36 quilt blocks, one per page. I love the author's use of color for her blocks. It really makes it look like stained glass. There are more pieces to piece because every black line is another addition. I'm anxious to put together a block or maybe a small wallhanging with four blocks.

Colorful Quilt Patterns Inspired by Stained Glass

Review Date: 2005-11-21
This is a book of patterns for quilts that resemble stained glass patterns to produce distinctive, colorful quilts of both traditional and dramatic new designs. This book contains some 36 squares that are described in great detail. These squares are then to be multiplied, perhaps using different colors and patterns, to cover the surface of the quilt.

Along with the patterns is a brief but fairly complete description of how to make the quile. This includes procedures for cutting out the patterns to the actual sewing.

This book is the second in a series produced by the same authors. The first volume, without the II in the title (ISBN: 1891497022) was so popular that these new patters were created.

The entire Fox Fire colledtion should be required reading for all people of this country. You would get a feel for where we came from and our heritage. The books show a deep respect for each other, God and country. Very good.

I bought the book because it has one of the best sections on fire pit firing of homemade pottery that I have seen, complete with excellent photos, as well as step by step info and historical info. The section on Quilting - The Joy Of My Life - Auntie Arie Carpenter is extensive and even has templates you can copy and use for making your own quilts. There is also a wonderful section on the country store, which as I read it seemed to be a combination of pay with cash or goods, like eggs, crops etc. Very worth the expense and a book I will treasure.

What a terrific book! Gloria provides links that will help you find shows, shops, guilds. She has information on museums, festivals, retreat, cruises, hotels, airplanes, trains, weather, maps, discounts, tourism. Whew! Understand that URLs come and go as quickly as the daffodils of spring. The lead time for a book makes it inevitable that you will find some bad links. There are so many, you won't miss those few that have disappeared.

If you're the kind of quilter that takes a design and looks for ways to implement it - this book is for you. Although it has a lot of design ideas and inspirations, it's main objective is to teach the reader/quilter techniques to achieve the designs we dream of. I bought it a trifle too late - when I was half way through a major quilt commision in which I needed exactly the techniques described in the book and found that I successfully reinvented the wheel. Still, it helped me a lot. Some of the techniques (especially for curved piecing) could be simplified - from experience. Otherwise, don't hesitate buying it. Pity it is out of print.

The concept of designing quilts around mathematical formulae sets this apart from the run of normal quilting books. But don't be scared - the book contains clear, well thought-out and detailed instructions for each example. It's hard to choose my favourite. Highly recommended!

This book is great for math lovers and math-phobics alike! The explanations are so clear that I can't imagine anyone not being successful with making the quilts (or a larger quilt). This is one of the few that doesn't end with "quilt as desired" -- instead giving suggestions for quilting motifs that work well with the patchwork. All thumbs up!
