The best of the best in figure modeling

This is a fantastic catalog of painted and finished miniature figures from some of the greatest modelers in the United States.
Inside you'll find photos of ancient, Medieval, Napoleonic, Civil War, twentieth-century, and even a few fantasy figures--something
to please just about anyone. What you will not find is a single demonstration of how these techniques are achieved, nor any
instructions, nor any in-progress photos. In other words, this is not a how-to book, and should never be confused with one.
Still, if you have ever squinted at a three-inch pewter figure and even clumsily stabbed at it with a 000, you'll be able
to learn something from this collection of the work of masters.

Great old west black powder and cowboy gun info!

This book is what appears to be a compilation of SHOOT MAGAZINE's different articles. It is all black and white with the
exception of a few full page inside cover ads. Material is similar to "GUNS of the Old West" Magazine, but the articles (chapters)
are more in depth and has more about actual shooting experiences than just reviews of various guns. Also includes some black
powder cartridge reloading info, which seems very hard to come by if you don't shoot long range rifle matches. Normally I
am hesitant to buy magazine compilation "books", but the quality and variety of info in this book make it well worth even
the full cover price. GREAT book for those getting into black powder shooting - especially those interested in Cowboy Action
type shooting. People who enjoy reading about "old west" guns and related history will find it a good read as well. It may
be slightly less useful to those solely interested in long range single shot black powder range matches, as there are better
sources for that type of info.

I was given a copy of the book by the author which I reviewed. Although the book is advertised as a "Paperback," it is an
8.5 x 11 inch soft cover book of 144 pages. It contains many photographs, maps and diagrams to provide the history of the
Japanese swords, and the five swords that are the topic of the book. The author added a chapter on M/Sgt R. M. June, USMC,
taken prisoner on Wake Island when that island fell to the Japanese on December 23, 1942. The author also includes a chapter
care and cleaning of Japanese swords and an appendix.
The photos and graphics make this book a worthwhile addition the library of anyone interested in Japanese history, Japanese swords, and the chapter on M/Sgt. June.

A first-class uniform reference

This title represents a detailed and encyclopaedic study of the regulation uniforms worn by British cavalry and infantry regiments
during the Napoleonic Wars, 1793-1815. Excluded from this study are named but unnumbered regiments, foreign regiments in British
pay, regiments recruited for service in the colonies, or the veteran and Garrison battalions.
The subject is divided into four sections: The Cavalry Commonalities, which discusses headwear, coats and jackets, netherwear , accoutrements, horse and harness furniture, and swords and carbines; The Cavalry Regiments, which discusses the individual regiments of heavy and light cavalry; Infantry Commonalities, with chapters on headwear, coats and jackets, netherwear, tartans of the Highland Regiments, accoutrements, and swords muskets and carbines; and The Infantry Regiments, which describes the individual regiments of foot guards and regiments of foot. There are two appendices: the first illustrates the rank distinctions of officers and enlisted men while the second discusses the primary sources used such as pattern books, clothing regulations, and surviving examples. Inconsistencies between the different sources consulted are explained in the text.
This book impresses by its logical lay-out and by the detail in both the colour plates and the explanatory text. Every cavalry and infantry regiment appears by its order of seniority and each plate is accompanied by an explanation giving a very brief history and the dates of relevant changes to the uniform.
The plates, all of which are in colour, are CAD-drawn but the quality is excellent. The accuracy of colour rendition is consistent throughout, although the green of the 95th Regiment of Rifles is a lighter shade than I expected. It might be that this was necessary to illustrate the black lacing, but my feeling is that the shade selcted to too light: whether this might be true for other plates I can't say. I would recommend using other sources as well.
There are over 200 full-colour shaded illustrations of clothing with separate plates illustrating footwear, kilt patterns, weapons, shabraques, sabretaches, helmets and caps, saddles, harnesses, cartridge pouches, epaulettes and wings, lace, gorgets, breastplates, and sashes.
This is an excellent reference work for those interested in military uniforms, the Napoleonic War, with much of the information published for the first time. Figure painters will also find this a very useful guide.
Very highly recommended.

I ordered this book in Amazon and I had no expectations at all. I was just sort of collecting all the information I can about
the British Challenger MBT since I have my Tamiya kit crying to be built. The book starts with some pictures of early Challenger
prototypes and a couple of assembly line factory pics as well, also interior views including two where the personal is loading
the monster's main gun. There are some pictures of the variants too, the Challenger Training Tank (2), the Challenger with
the Mine Plough (1) and the Repair & Recovery Vehicle (9). The other 90% are open pics of the tank (very good ones) with detailed
information, including campaigns in The Gulf and Bosnia. Also there is the history of the development of the tank and its
versions, although I think the Concord's Challenger 1 & 2 is much better in this subject. Finally, the last five pages are
dedicated to the Challenger 2. I've bought four books from Europa Militaria...so far, so good.

I found this book to be a great source of information on arrowheads and knives. His hypothesis on the difference between
arrowheads and knives makes sense.Filled with great photos. I would reccomend this book to the novice and experienced collector
alike. Many photos you won't see in the Overstreet guide and other publications.

This is one of the best books on a rather broad subject matter. The authors have done a commendable job of covering the availability
and use of firearms during one of the most dramatic times in American history. Not only do they document the use of major
manufacturers products, they also cover the use and possession of lesser known products as well. This is a well written
and entertaining compendium of information that is bound to go down in literature history as one of the great books on the
subject it covers. I recommend this book if you have any interest in this subject. It is well worth the money spent!

The book's greatest value though is the final impression it leaves on the reader. As one approaches the end, you realize that the author is optimistic, but not certain, that the United States will win the war, and, after experiencing the enormous sacrifices made by the troops, he expresses his agonizing hope that it will end soon.
This book provides a rare source of perspective on WWII: the desperate uncertainty of 1943.
