It's a technical read. Probably not recommended for the average consumer. A must have for the professional. You might think you know everything in this book. You probably do. But the diagrams, charts and discussions on how to investigate building related health complaints make a great reference.

With this book, you don't need a lot of other engineering reference texts. The example problems are great and have many practical uses. I even used this book as a supplement to a college fluid mechanics course.

This is a remarkable book by an outstanding historian of science and technology. By uncovering previously hidden or forgotten controversies in 19th-century electrical practices, technologies, and techniques, Gooday makes us think anew about the meaning of accuracy in the 21st century. Whom should we trust? What are the ironies of our (over)reliance on technology? How are technologies and techniques often constructed with (un)intentional gender bias? Gooday stimulates questions like these, and many more. Certainly one of the most stimulating and original books I have ever read. If you're a scientist, an engineer, or simply want to know more about your relationship to technology, you'll want to read this book.

Futuristic lamps your passion? Then get this book. Sure, these babies are all almost fifty years old but what a collection. This is obviously a labor of love for the author. He even gives the reader display sheets used by department stores. The color photos are magnificent. Even if you are just a lover of the wild and crazy fashions and designs of the 1950s, this is a must own book. Who knew that tools for lighting could be so much fun and so imaginative.

I thoroughly recommend it if for no other reason
that it has in it one of the most interesting bits of useless

Greg Pahl's book organizes everything you need to know about heating with alternative fuels in a very "non-techy, quick to find salient facts" manner.I used his book to help me make choices in buying and installing a new wood stove to heat my dome house in Maine.With all of the alternatives out there, this book helped me intelligently sort through a myriad of choices and get a stove just right for my needs.

Signs of the Times (an electric sign magazine) says, "This manual provides 54 detailed drawings and guidlines on most electric neon signs and outline lighting. The installation drawings are for signs listed both in accordance with UL 48 and those by special permission (NEC Section 600-4) definitions, code interpretations and explanations are provided to assist in the installations shown. Component installation information is also included." If you work with neon as I do, this book is indispensible. The drawings alone are worth the price of the book. It is binder style, so pages can be removed to photocopy for permit drawings. It pretty much covers how to do all kinds of neon signs, i.e., channel letters, open pan channel letters, skeleton neon, halo letters,etc. I highly recommend this book edited by ex-Washington State Head Electrical Inspector, Phil Simmons.

This is about my umpteenth copy of this book... I teach neon and it is still the best nuts and bolts book on the subject.
