This book is so useful, even for Grandmas like me. There is always more to learn about raising a child and these times are so much more complex than the 70s when I did my Mommying. Dr. Jenn makes everything clear and even adds a touch of humor. The separate chapters make it possible to address just one question or you can read it through. I'd recommend this book to everyone who has a child or grandchild in their life or one on the way.

As a psychotherapist, I read many books and often make recommendations to clients. This book is at the top of my list. Dr. Berman has done a wonderful job summarizing some of the most important things parents need to know so as to raise happy, healthy, confident kids. I enthusiastically recommend this magnificent, practical, fun, interesting, and easy-to-read book to any parent. It really is a must read!

Dr. Jenn's "A to Z Guide to Raising Happy, Confident Kids" is a must read for parents and of course soon to be parents! I have given this book to four new moms, and they all have loved it, and have felt their anxiety about becoming a parent has lessoned after reading Dr. Jenn's insightful, encouraging and practical words. I also highly recommend this book to anyone who works with children and families! I look forward to reading more by Dr. Jenn!

I have a ten month old daughter. I want nothing more for this beautiful little girl, than to be happy and confident. Kids are cruel, school can be brutal, and I'm hoping to get her off on the right foot with some self esteem. This book didn't really provide great advice on how to help her achieve that.

This book is more of a comprehensive guide to parenting. Much of the content is things I would have done anyway, sort of common sense parenting to those of us who care enough to read a parenting book. Many of the topics, while relavent to parenting, fail to relate back to the confidence issue I was looking for.

Having said that, there are a few good nuggets. My opinion is that this is a book that would best be checked out from a library, and not necessarily purchased for ones frequent reference.

It's nice to know that other people deal with similarly ridiculous situations on a daily basis! Just knowing that I am not alone in the unattainable goal of conquering Laundry Mountain is a relief! Jenn Doucette has peppered her book with lots of laughs and "Me Too!!!" moments. I have read the book twice now since receiving it hot off the press and I think I laughed even harder the second time (a good sign)! A sense of humor goes a long way in this journey called motherhood, without one bitterness may just set in! One suggestion, read The Velveteen Rabbit - especially with your kids - before and after reading The Velveteen Mommy, it truly adds to the enjoyment of both. I recommend this book for all of us who are getting worn with love, the love of our precious children!

A book to uplift and delight. Jenn Doucette uses humorous stories and biblical wisdom to show us we're never alone. God is with us through the joys and struggles of motherhood. He NEVER fails to pull us out of the "trenches of motherhood," and carry us though another day of laundry up to our eyeballs.

It is certainly a truth that the Lord uses our everyday existence as a school of learning, so is the case in this book by author Jenn Doucette. In this work she shares the ups and downs of being a parent, the trials, the joys, the strain on patience, tolerance and strength and shares out loud what so many are screaming within, "Help me Lord!"
Lighthearted and always real, our author weaves God's wisdom into her stories bringing a sense of calm and peace in the whirlwind life of a parent. Many a mom will relate and draw encouragement and strength in reading this work from someone who knows. It's always a blessing to know that you are not alone.

Like all busy moms, I tend to forget what is important in raising children ~~ and Doucette is here to remind me! This is a lovely book ~~ inspirational and funny in some parts ~~ and refreshing. This book is a Christian book and in some ways, it can be used as a Bible Study ~~ but I read it to know that I am not alone in the trenches of mommyhood!

Written with gentle humor, Doucette writes of her own trials as a mother with three youngsters under the age of five. She writes poignantly of her failings ~~ and she writes in a way that the reader can relate to ~~ it's almost as if she's in the room with you sharing her tales of woes and joys over a cup of coffee. As a mom of two very active preschoolers, this book is my "time-out" from their demands. It is just wonderful knowing that I can be a Velveteen Mommy and still be loved by God!

If you're a mother of youngsters, I would not hesitate in picking this book up! In fact, I would run to the nearest bookstore and see if they have it in stock ~~ you'll be glad that you did!!

The Global 200 Executive Recruiters is another proof of Nancy Garrison Jenn's in-depth knowledge of the world's executive recruitment market. Though interesting for recruiting companies to learn about their sector and their competitive position, the book is particularly of help to their clients and potential clients in assessing executive search firms and the recruiters with those firms. The Global 200 provides very useful and detailed information regarding recruiters and their expertise, both in terms of business sector specialization, as well as local, regional or global orientation. It is an excellent guide for both smaller companies and larger corporations on their path to find the executive talent they need to build a sustainable competitive edge.

Nancy Garrison Jenn has taken upon herself the challenge of boiling down a highly fragmented industry into a meaningful knowledge base that can be used by corporate executives and individuals to network to solve both business and career needs. Her summary chapters on how to select a recruiter and advice to both corporations and individuals provides a quick study on critical issues affecting all parties concerned. While some in the industry may quibble with her selection of individuals, without question she has identified the "Who's Who" of the search industry, reflecting a credible balance between US-based and global search professionals. Without question it is the only work of its kind.

I am a big fan of Toni Morrison, eagerly devouring each new work she comes out with. From the point of view of a Morrison fan I have to say that Not Too Sweet, But Meaty can sit on any shelf, tucked right between Beloved & Paradise and not be out of place.

Having been one of the first publishers to present Jen's work to the Internet, I am very proud of the art and serious craft of this book. The dialogue is so realistic you find yourself turning your head to be certain these characters are not in the room with you. The members of this family, this society are dysfunctional at best; painting life as it is not as we like to pretend it to be.

You'll become a part of this family, hurriedly turning pages to see what happens next to Bainy or Spot, Anthony or Victory. Jen pulls you right into the smack dab middle of these lives. This book is without a doubt great first novel.

Jenn Muri's book is a reminder that we all have hopes and dreams, no matter what our advantages or lack thereof. Bainy, Victory, Spot, and Albert, are well-crafted characters. They and their world come vividly to life through her words. You will feel their joys and pains and cheer their successes.

By turns comic and violent, and graceful throughout.

Ms. Muri has crafted a novel of honesty and clear vision. Speaking of those apart, often refused language, she achieved in making her characters all too real, in giving us a landscape full of the joy in possibility and surprising triumph. Bainy, Victory, Anthony, and Spot all find home; finding home is always a journey forward.

Ms. Muri takes you into the seedy realistic world of urban life with a variety of dysfunctional characters. Many times I felt I was right there living in their world. I found I could not wait to get to the next page or the next segment of a particular character. I can't wait until her next book.

Right up there with the work of Toni Morrison.

The Green Parent is an essential read for all parents and parents-to-be who endeavor to find ways to improve energy efficiency even as their family continues to grow. It offers a wide range of tips and suggestions that cover every aspect of life while raising children. Taking just a few of these and incorporating them into the daily routine can easily help your family save money as well as reduce waste. Most importantly, there are fun and creative ways to involve children in the effort so that the lessons of protecting the environment are taught early and often allowing parents to set the example and educate in ways kids can appreciate. If (like me) you ever thought having children made going green too difficult or challenging, The Green Parent will convince you otherwise. - J.K., father of two

The Green Parent is a very valuable resource for any parent that even remotely cares about raising a family with an eye towards sustainability and environmental responsibility. Aside from the fundamental purpose of the book, the Green Parent is a great book for a few reasons. For starters, the book is well researched. There's no fluff. Secondly, it's a very practical book. And that's probably its greatest benefit. The ideas Jenn presents are easy to digest...there's no pontification and you won't feel guilty after reading it. Her wise use of bullet points, light narrative and to-the-point suggestions are a breath of fresh air...pun intended. The Green Parent is a good read on its own, and it has staying power in that you'll be coming back to it as a reference again and again.

I found that this Bible was laid out to draw the interest of a young woman between the ages of 13-20. Besides the scriptures in each Book of the Bible, there were other short stories and paragraphs interspersed with illustrations throughout to help the person to compare how the words and message in Biblical times of the Old and New Testament could relate to their own personal life. Hopefully, they could come to a conclusion that people have similar problems and situations no matter how many years separate the generations.

Time Tunnel to Ancient Jerusalem

Review Date: 2008-11-17
This is book # 1 of the "When Time Forgets Trilogy"--a 145 page story, published in 2008. I begin by saying that I normally don't read fictional novels, but this storyline intrigued me.

Michael is a 40-year old single parent, caring for his 13 year-old daughter, Elizabeth (Lizzy). As a conservative, he cannot get past the current-day fashions of belly rings and tank tops, baggy pants and bare bellies. He is trying to raise his daughter right and she is at the age where she is starting to grow up fast. Vicki was her mother and Michael's wife, but Vicki is no longer in the picture, so Lizzy is all Michael has left, and he is completely devoted to her.

I like the use of the single father theme because there are many single parents today, with difficulties evident not only for the parent but also for the child. What an awesome book to bring these concepts into a spiritual-based story. The author quickly makes you feel you are "in the story" by referencing 2008 things you can relate to, such as iPods, earbuds, and Hannah Montana, among others. I also liked the way the author interwove Christ-time events with flashbacks of Michael's life with Vicki, Lizzy and others, such as Lizzy's birth, incidents of her growing up to the ripe old age of 13, even events from Michael's childhood and the love that he and Vicki shared. You get to know of the peace and tenderness the family members shared, as well as some of the less favorable experiences, all of which made them who they are today.

You don't have to wait long for the excitement to start. After some brief stage-setting remarks, Michael and Lizzy are helping out with a food drive at Lizzy's school/church when she and Michael stumble upon a door to a root cellar in the church basement. It turns out to be the door to a time tunnel, and a place they do not initially recognize. Thinking they have reached some other part of Long Island NY, where an Easter Passion Play is taking place, they are horrified to find out this is the real deal. They find themselves in 1st century Jerusalem during the last week of Christ's life. Lizzy's anxiousness to help a stranger who is being beaten, kicked, and spat upon leads father and daughter right into harms way and also into an incredible and unique adventure in a time and place of long ago. A new friend Leah helps them stay alive through this incredible ordeal while they try to find their way back home. Being trapped in ancient times forces Michael to take a good hard look at himself and some of his baggage.

Like I said, the adventure begins quickly and I found the book very difficult to put down. That is a rare experience for me. I am not normally a fast reader, but almost finished the entire book in one sitting. With Christianity and spiritual principles interwoven into the fast-paced storyline, it was a wonderful story. God bless the author for remembering Jesus in his book and for putting this wonderful work out there. Now, I am sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for books 2 and 3 of the trilogy.
