Marilyn Todd was born in Harrow, Middlesex, but now lives in West Sussex with her husband, one dog and two cats. For the last ten years she has run her own secretarial business from home. It seems a long time since Marilyn Todd's previous book Scorpion Rising was published but is in fact just over a year. That book of course featured the character Claudia. this is a completely new venture for the author.

Although the author's books on the Roman widow, Claudia did not seem to have the same impact on the reading public as say Lindsey Davis or Steven Saylor. I was always eager for the publication of a new one as I enjoy the writing style and wit of the author. This new series seems to be carrying on to the same high standard. I am not sure whether the author had gone as far as she thought she could with the character Claudia, or whether she felt she needed a new character and a new country to freshen things up.

This series is set in Ancient Greece and the synopsis provided by Amazon will give the reader all they need to know about the content of this particular book. Suffice to say that it held my attention from beginning to end and I found it very enjoyable.

This book has always made me pine a little for the eastern states. If you are in that area and looking for some weekend fun buy this book. You'll find a lot of excuses to get away from the television and tromp around in the woods.

The third edition of The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Colonial Tokens provides an invaluable overview of Canadian colonial tokens from 1794-1867. The photographs and detailed descriptions of major token types are helpful for beginning collectors and experienced collectors alike. The bibliography and cross references are great resources for collectors who want more detailed information on specific topics within the Canadian colonial token series. The legend index is helpful for quickly identifying tokens and finding their full descriptions in the catalogue.

This third edition corrects some errors from the second edition and simplifies the numbering of the ships colonies and commerce tokens of Prince Edward Island. The catalogue now includes prices realized at auction for selected rare tokens.

I have the seventh edition. However they all stop at 1964 so with a few corrections, any edition should work. The coins are easily identifiable with monochrome pictures of front and back. Periodically there is an explanation paragraph. Probably due to limited space many coins are omitted. For the most part it is a catalog.

An extremely fine work, though dated. Probabaly written in the 1920s. Cites loans, purchases, bequests of coins as far back as the 1860s. There's some trival overlap with coins cited in the Sear Byzantine Coin Values standard current reference, but this is more reassuring than redundant. It does not give catalogue values, but that's no matter. Prices from the 1920s would be entertaining but not informative. About the only drawback I've noticed is that it's a paperback and already beginning to be distressed by my handling.

This book is authentic to the original Downs volume. It beautifully describes the moves and sleights. However, it also goes into the deeper philosophy of coin magic. Overall it is a good addition to you coin magic library

I am a beginning coin collector and I've really enjoyed going through this book with the coins I have in my collection. The book describes many aspects of coin collecting such as how they are valued, what certain marks mean, how coins are made, and many other interesting details about collecting US coins. The value tables are not up to date though. So I have also been using the book THE INSIDERS GUIDE TO US COIN VALUES 2000. This book also has good (but not as thorough) information for beginners. With the current coin values it helped round out my search for coin collecting information.

When I first saw this book, I was curious about the coinage on the cover. Chinese coins have always been of interest to me.

But it is the content of this book that I found much more interesting. This little book is packed with information of value to anyone interested in divination.

There is a short introduction relating some history of coins being used as "Divination" tools. The "heads or tails" is the most obvious. But Mr. Buckland goes deeper, examining divination from its roots, its history and its use.

He then gives you some real "meat and potatoes" information, a complete "how to" use coins as tools for divination. No fancy coins needed, pocket change will do. And he goes from very basic "yes or no" types of divination for the beginner to some very thorough and complex multiple coin astrological divination, coins used as tarot cards and I Ching variations.

A small pocket book, yes, but don't let that be a judgement on this book. The tarot, astrological and I Ching material covered in this book make it well worth having for that alone.

Raymond Buckland has packed big things into a small package here and has given us yet another book of solid information and guidance well worth having in our libraries.

The six page Introduction mostly describes large pseudo-hoards of fake tetradrachms and Republican denarii arriving on the market. (These hoards aren't in this book.) There are three pages on the Mandev studio. The rest of the book is a catalog of fakes. Some of the fakes get a paragraph describing their manufacture or patina. The book covers

* 41 Greek coins (3 AE, 4 gold, the rest silver)
+110 Histiaia tetrobols
* 1 Celtic imitation of Phillip II
* 2 Roman Republican (1 gold)
* 25 Roman coins (6 AE, 9 gold, 10 silver)
* 2 Byzantine coins
* 17 'Mandev studio' coins (8 Greek, 1 Bosporos kingdom, 7 Roman, 1 medieval)
* 6 antiquities

The coins are divided into three sections. The first section contains all coins except the Mandev and Histiaia fakes. The second section is the Mandev studio coins. The third is the tetrobols.

The Histiaia coins are all shown life size and with an accompanying enlargement. Only 18 non-Histiaia coins are enlarged. The enlargements are on three separate pages far from the life sized image the description.
