A must have book for collectors of pattern and experimental coins
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-05
It would appear that the idea behind this valuable reference guide was that it become a mainstay of study in this in-depth and exotic world of United States pattern, experimental and trial strike pieces, and it looks like that idea has been fulfilled. I would also add that with this fairly new research guide, there is more information available to interested coin collectors in this realm than ever before. Up until now there was Adams and Woodin, Judd, Pollack and now this reference book, one which is quite essential to anyone attempting to build a library in which to study this most interesting area of Numismatics. As a professional coin dealer I strongly recommend the aquisition of this great reference book to all who are interested in this area of US coinage.

The single best proof coin reference available
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1998-11-15
This book contains an astronomical amount of data. It has sections on all periods of proof coins, including special sections on early specimen coins and branch mint proofs. Data on both of these types of coins is extremely difficult to locate, and this volume contains an astonishing amount of data on individual coins and thier pedigrees. More than anything attention to detail is what sets this book apart. Breen had seen many of these coins himself, and often gives wonderfully detailed descriptions of individual coins. This book also gives the most complete treatment I've ever seen to the question of early proof sets. (Note: be sure to check the corrections in the back of the book. There are sometimes listings he did not include in the main sections.)

Allen Berman's Warman's Coins & Paper Money covers both ancient and modern coins, art medals, bank checks, and commemoratives under one cover. Explanations of grades is quite handy but it's the wider-ranging coverage of this guide which sets it apart and will make it appealing for avid and dedicated collections of all kinds of money.

Washington quarter folder volume 2. (1948-1964) by whitman

The Washington quarter coin folder volume 2 (1948-1964 inclusive) by Whitman, is a superb way to collect and showcase your coins. By using the lock-in feature, the coins are kept in place to prevent coin loss. Each coin slot is designated with the year, mint mark (D,P,or S)and the mintage. I particularly like the mintage, since it lets me know just how many quarters were made in one year in relation to another. It's also nice to have a brief history lesson about the Washington quarter in order to give us some appreciation of its heritage.

Tells a story
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-17
This is one of the most interesting coin books I have yet to buy. Not only does it give you space for both the P and D mint marks of the Westward Series nickels, but it follows the story of the journey of Lewis and Clark. It also has a timeline that points out significant dates of the westward expansion of the United States with places for state quarters from Missouri, Kansas, California and Oregon as well as the Sacagewea dollar and a buffalo nickel. Also has three coin spots to show the change in the obverse design from 2004 through 2006. 20 coins needed in all to fill this book. I see this book as not only a coin folder/map but as a learning tool. Great buy. Folder is large, about twice the size of the average folder but again I think it's well worth it!

This book inspired me to look for more like it.

The Woodland Gang is Dave, Sammy, Kathy and Bill. The beginning is when the mailman comes to the Woodland Gang's house and sees them mowing the lawn. Mrs. Tandy, the housekeeper and nanny, comes out and there is a letter for her. It is about going to London. At the airport they meet a boy who's nickname is Bunny. He really likes Dave and sat in Dave's wheelchair with him. They are trying to find out who stole the old gold coins. They try to use clues and they narrow it down using the suspects. They finally solve the crime. My opinion of this book is that I could never have read a book like this until now. I am very proud that I was able to read it. I like how they split up compound words so it makes it easier to read, like foot ball.

If you like pirates and mysteries you'll love You Will Come Back. Two young teens get embroiled in a mystery dealing with the possibility of buried treasure as they go about their daily lives in their picturesque New England town. Rachel and Will are led on a roller coaster of a ride as they try to solve the question "Where did the found strange coins come from and are there more?" You'll learn to care about these two teens and root for their success while picking up a little history in the process. A great read.
