This is THE standard reference work for Canadian token collectors.
It is profusely illustrated with B&W photos of all major token types.
It is laid out by province and it's fairly simple to find your way through the book to the token in question.
All-in-all, a "must have" for anyone interested in collecting Canadian tokens.

Updated Canada Small Cent Coin Collecting Folder
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-07
Recognized by their characteristic blue covers, Whitman Publishing has been making tri-fold coin collecting folders for years. This book, Canada Small Cents (Number one) is an update of their 1950s Canadian Small Cent Collection (catalog number 9062).

The book has slots for Canadian pennies from 1920 to 1988. The total number of coins minted is listed under each year (which should help you figure out how rare certain years are). It includes slots for easier to find variants including the 1947, 1953, 1965, and 1985 varieties. Like older Whitman coin folders, it includes a brief history of the coins and technical composition / weight specifications on a paper flap that covers one of the pages. Unfortunately the historical information does not tell you how to tell apart the various variants, nor does it list which years the sovereign's portrait was changed to match changes in the crown or Queen Elizabeth's changing appearance. It also does not have extra slots to show the observe sides featuring the English/Canadian Monarch.

Despite the lack of history, the slots are well manufactured and coins easily lock into place. Furthermore, the next book (Small Cent Canadian Volume 2 (Official Whitman Coin Folder)) has plenty of extra slots in which you can store your King George V, King George VI, and various Queen Elizabeth II obverse examples. The best feature of this book is very little space was wasted on its three coin pages, meaning each page squeezes slots for 25 coins.

I'm very happy to have an updated folder to store my Canadian cents in! This folder makes an excellent gift for young and old coin collectors. Please consider looking at Whitman's other Canadian coin folders that are currently available:

- Small Cent Canadian Volume 2 (Official Whitman Coin Folder)
- 25 Cent Canadian Folder Vol. 2 (Official Whitman Coin Folder)
- 25 Cent Canadian Folder Vol. 4 (Official Whitman Coin Folder)

Jigsaw Jones is a modern detective. He talks like children talk today, he is "cool", and children can identify with him. It would be unfair to say that "The case of the Christmas Snowman" is his best case ever because all of Jigsaw's cases are good. My children love him and collect all his books, this one is no exception.

Coin Boards Book Great for Antique Collectors, too

David W. Lange's new book on coin boards of the 1930 and 1940 is amazing. Those expecting routine treatment of the subject are in for a real surprise and a treat.

Although filled with the kinds of detail and personalities coin collectors love to read about, Coin Collecting Boards of the 1930s & 1940s is much more. It is a numismatic window to times and places that most of us know only from classic movies and the occasional PBS special on the Great Depression and New Deal era. The excellent typography and page layout, combined with generous sections of color photos and top notch writing, place Coin Collecting Boards of the 1930s & 1940s several notches above most numismatic books. (I fully expect David's work to take multiple honors at next years NLG awards!)

Coin Collecting Boards of the 1930s & 1940s belongs in the library of any coin collector who wants to know more than the superficial. But its appeal also lies beyond just coin collectors. The careful integration of people, hobbies, economics, history and coin boards suggest this book should be one of the standard references for Americana, advertising and antique aficionados.

You can read more about Coin Collecting Boards of the 1930s & 1940s on David Lange's web site at: http://www.coincollectingboards.com. However, this one should also be on the shelves of mass market booksellers such as Amazon.com and others.

I had the honor of being a personal friend of the author over a period of several years. Billed as "The Incredible Lamont" the main thrust of his early career was escape artistry, however over time he turned his vast talents towards stage illusion and slight of hand.

I spent much time with this man and watched him develop many of the techniques illustrated in this book. But don't ask ME how they're done... I couldn't even begin to guess!

Lamont's innovations in the art of coin and card manipulation as well as other forms of close-up slight of hand are well known among magicians today and rightly so. This book is a must for any magician of whatever skill level.
