The book contains over 200 pages, mostly of Tokens and their variations. The key word being British this covers many world wide locations such as England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man. The chapters are divided into centuries form the 17th through the 19th
More than coin a catalog there is selected Bibliography of general works on tokens. Also a fine introduction of what is a token. Included is a list of "Arms of the Merchant Guilds." Even a Condensed form pf an article by C.W. Peek from their 1949 Copper Catalog.

Byzantine Coins and Their Values

This book is perhaps the best single volume reference on Byzantine coins currently available. It is a great guide for both the beginner and novice collectors as well as the advanced collector on a budget who doesn't want spend a small fortune on the Dumbarton Oaks collection of Byzantine coin references.

This book is well organized and illustrated with many examples on the same page as the listing, rather than having to turn to the back of the book to view plates in order to check the picture of the coin. Coins are listed by decreasing denomination within a seperate section for each mint for every emperor. This makes it easier to identify a coin if only the mint or emperor is known. Cross references to other catalogue numbers such as those in Dumbarton Oaks are given for each listing as well.

Prices are listed in two different grades in UK pounds and are closer to real market values than Sear's other references on ancient coins and their values.

Caesar's Coin is another intriguing book written by Jack Casserly with his impecable command of the English language.

A very imaginative account of a priceless gold coin becoming the property of a variety of owners as Jack weaves one plot after another in a uniquely subtle fashion.

I look forward to reading more of this remarkable writers books.

Get Ready To Become Very Interested In Proof Coins!!!

You are about to enter into a covenant with a devil: The Ultimate Cameo Proof Coin. After you have begun to read this book, which will initially picque your interest only because it is so beautifully made, you will fall hopelessly, madly in love with the United States Mint Proof Coin! Yes, even though you don't like them or even know much if anything about them, the author of this book is going to take you on such a journey through the various proof coins of the 1950 to 1970 era that you are going to go out shortly after reading this book to seek out some nice proof coins, really. I can't exactly tell you why I know this but trust me on it, you will. I think it is partly because the author describes in such loving detail, date by date, denomination by denomination, what it is about a particular strike that makes one wish to own it, or at least to find it. I think it is also partly because the author has done such a fine job of photographing the various stages of proof that one can literally use this book as a photograde comparison guide....alas, I did to mine and now know that I don't presently own any ultra-heavy cameo proofs, BUT I WILL....believe me, I will. This is a definite addition to the coin reference library.

Foremost Authority on Canadian Bank Notes

If you are a collector of Canadian Bank Notes, this book is an absolute necessity. Currently, there are no other similar resources available.

Newcomers to the hobby often confuse Canadian Bank Notes with currency issued by the Government of Canada. This guide will keep you straight as it lists all the issues from the private banks that no longer exist but once competed with the government in the printing of money. It contains a description of the banks, images of all the notes, as well as book values at various grades from G to UNC.

Even if you are just a casual collector of Bank of Canada issues, this catalogue may peak your interest. I find that the bank notes tend to be more artistic, and they all have historical, cultural and regional significance which makes for an interesting endeavour.

The Canadian Coin answer to the US Coin Red Book.
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-31
If you collect Canadian coins, this book is invaluable. This book has a section on how to grade Canadian coins with an emphasis on what to look for when grading coins. Although the prices are in Canadian Dollars, the values are in some ways higher than Krause. Included are pattern and trial stike coins, as well as sections on pre-1867 coinage and Newfoundland. This book is to Canadian Coins what Red Book is for US Coins.
