I have been an Oswald Chambers follower for many years. I had been reading a tattered copy that belonged to my dad. For my birthday today I got this copy for my birthday and it is so very special. The leather cover is so soft and beautiful. Two shades of purple and liliac. Soft and comfortable to hold.

The dovotions are still current today. They make you look deep within your heart to what God is saying to you.

Highly recommend.

I'm very excited about finding DuBay's book through her web site limogesantiques.com - her books are wonderful. I have inhereited many pieces of Limoges and her books helped me identify the factory, the marks, and to date each piece. I highly recommend LIVING WITH LIMOGES it is the best book on the market - except for DuBay's ANTIQUE LIMOGES AT HOME and COllecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain Boxes to Vases.

I could not find this book at my local book stores, shopped the net and found www limogesantiques com and www collectinglimoges com and found Debby DuBay's fantastic reference books on Limoges. It had all of the marks and I found the back stamp I was looking for. This book is a must.

I have purchased and given away many copies of this incredible book. I am re-reading it again with my young son and have given a copy to my ex-husband along with a sincere apology for so much of my behavior and attitude towards him since we began to pull apart. The companion book 'Leadership and Self-Deception' is also amazing. Both should be required reading in schools and in every other organization.

I own all three of Debby DuBay's books on Limoges along with all of the other reference books available on the market today. I have to admit - it is hard finding this book unless you purchase it on line - but it is well worth the effort. Out of all of the Limoges reference books this book Antique Limoges at Home is the absolutely best. It covers French factory listed artists, amature artists, American Decorating Studios, American listed artists, every back stamp and mark out there, reproductions and a complete section of American Limoges marks. Antique Limoges at Home is the best and a must for the Limoges collector.

Numerous color photographs of limoges' pieces or sets in different rooms of a home--foyer, livingroom, bedrooms, etc.--illustrate how this highly desirable porcelain can enhance any setting. Individual pieces and sets are highlighted in middle chapters on different types of limoges such as plates, ewers, platters, chalices, dresser sets, punch bowls, teapots, vases, and others. With these pieces with price ranges conveniently noted following brief descriptions, one can study the details of illustrations, design of the edges, ornamentation, shape, and coloring. There's a shorter section for limoges pieces "you can wear"--i. e., brooches, pins, buttons. Owner of the Limoges Antique Shop in Andover, MA, and author and contributor to other books on limoges who is also a retired Air Force officer, Debbie DuBay has long been a recognized leader in spreading the word about the special beauty, diversity, and value of limoges. This book is so attractive, a reader might miss the general information and reference material DuBay provides of use to collectors and investors at all levels. Opening chapters introduce beginning collectors to limoges porcelain, noting distinctions between French and American limoges and the matter of reproductions. The references on artists, markings, and evaluating a piece or set more of interest to advanced collectors and dealers comes toward the end. Here there are close-ups of the many artist signatures and factory marks signifying the finest limoges.

The Oxford Companion to Wine is a great encyclopedia for wine lovers. It covers a great breadth of topics, deeply enough to be informative, but in a short enough fashion to keep this under 1000 pages. Coverage includes wine growing regions, wines, vine varietals, wine making, barrel making, bacteria, and on and on.

One thing this is not - it's not a review/criticism of specific wines (which tend to become out of date too quickly to be useful in book form).

Highly recommended.

Although one of the lowest cost items in this category, this is the best value. Quality is very good, colorful and easy to use for kids, lots of information about each state makes this a fine educational tool, and there is a provision for the Territorial Quarters to be issued in 2009. Our quilting guild put on a program on vintage aprons. Members brought in their aprons and shared their memories. We used many of the quotes and sayings from the book, The Apron Book, giving credit of course. We included the tips for caring for vintage aprons--not unlike caring for vintage quilts!

The program was warmly received. So many members had happy memories about aprons. We also shared some contemporary aprons some of us had made more recently.

I decided I was going to make aprons for my female family and friends for Christmas and ordered this book hoping it would give me lots of different ideas. It is actually more of a history lesson on aprons but did have lots of pictures and patterns and instructions. There does not seem to be a glut of books on Aprons so this was a good choice. If you are the least bit creative you can go with some of their general ideas and expand on them. Makes a nice coffee table book too.

When the student is ready

Review Date: 2008-05-09
I had to make an apron in Home Ec class many (many) years ago. I didn't enjoy it at all. I didn't care for the fabric, didn't really get the hang of using a sewing machine, just felt it was a waste of time. Nobody in my family wore an apron, anyway, somehow they miraclously stayed clean during food prep.
Flash forward a few decades. I like to cook and bake and I did not inherit the miracle of not getting messy while I cooked. Most aprons you can buy in a store are servicable - but not exactly flashy or pretty. One of my supervisors whipped up aprons as Christmas presents one year. I was amazed because I knew she was a very busy woman. Slowly, I began to gather fabric to make aprons. And when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. That's how I feel about this book. I recommend it highly.

Gary Vaynerchuk.

I admit, I never would have recognized this name two years ago. But in two very short years (perhaps less) this name and the wine-infused, palate-drenching, non-traditional approach to wine his name symbolizes has had an infectious effect on wine consumers world wide. I had the pleasure of meeting Gary just before the wild fire was set and ever since the first Wine 2.0 event my appreciation and respect for Gary has grown tremendously.

Gary would be the first to admit that he's not a Rhodes scholar and didn't study English at Oxford, and as you might guess, neither have I. He chose video as his medium because he is raw, unrefined, reactionary, and as in your face "Jersey" as it gets.

After seeing Gary on Conan the second time, I asked myself if Gary could ever enter the mainstream wine drinker channels, e.g. Gary giving his two cents on wine in the Wall Street Journal or NY Times? To do that, Gary would have to be able to string a conscious, coherent stream of impulses to text-something that rarely happens, as his type of enthusiasm is hard to lasso to text. However, Vaynerchuk's book, 101 Wines Guaranteed to Inspire, Delight, and Bring Thunder To Your World comes across as genuinely Gary as possible and is a great read for any wine drinker who has ever wanted more from their wine review!

Gary's genuine lack of finesse, lack of snobbery, and most importantly, lack of boring moments, comes straight through in his book with wine review titles like "Oak Monster Be Damned," and `risque' topics like "Red Wine with Fish." Read it cover to cover, browse it from the toilet, or use it for inspiration when you find a wine that really brings the thunder - but whatever you do, get yourself a copy!

An absolute "must get" book about wines

Review Date: 2008-07-23
This book far exceeded my expectations, broght a thunder of enjoyment, and contributed yet more valuable knowledge and tidbits to my understanding of the wine world. Gary offers every description in a fun and easy to read, down-to-earth, interest catching manner and language. Besides the fact that in my opinion this book is so good, spreading also the writer's exquisite taste in choosing this wine list, I must enrich this concept by adding that Gary Vaynerchuk is the most influential person in my life, as far as my relationship with wines go. That is also to say that this young man clearly promises to be the next generation Robert Parker, or wine authority of that scope.

Title says it all..

this is a book about joy...words like "Inspire" and "Delight" accurately describe the contents of the book..after starting to read wine reviews (and collecting wines) 25 years ago, I gave up; the previous wine commentaries all sounded like clinical reviews of new drugs; I found no joy in reading the "taste list" of samplings and felt stupid. Gary V has it right..wine (and wine tasting) should be a passion, a new experience, something fun, something to be shared..the comments in the book sound just like those on his PODcast(check it out). He will show you how to enjoy new tastes. Buy the book and read it. Mark the pages about the wines which you might be interested in. Start watching the show. Visit your local wine store regularly. You will forever be changed..

You're kidding, right?

Gary Vaynerchuk is a charlatan within nothing insightful or informative to say. How he got to where is is a mystery to me. I guess it's because he's done a good job of positioning himself as a "shock" wine critic. He acts like a complete goofball his video reviews, and not in a good way. That really annoys me - not because he acts goofy, but because it's obviously FORCED and unnatural. He probably believes he needs to do something to make his subject matter more interesting. (After all, wine doesn't lend itself to a visual medium like video, right? Please.) Ironically, good wine needs no embellishment. All he needs to do is tell the stories behind the wines he's reviewing and the producers who make them, and do that in a straightforward way, and he would be fascinating. When it comes to wine, reality is more interesting than fantasy.

What would vintage Barbie lovers and collectors do without this and the other 2 books by Sarah Sink Eames? Without a doubt her books are the best on the market for identifying all the wonderful vintage outfits for Barbie and her family. Beautifully presented, detailed and comprehensive information. Each outfit is presented by name, stock number and years made, as well as detailed descriptions of the fabrics used and the accessories accompanying the outfits. Original outifts that came with the dolls are also shown and described. A trip down memory lane and the next best thing to owning all the wonderful outfits.

I must admit, I'm not as crazy about this book like everyone else seems to be. I gave it four stars for the beautiful photos, and descriptions.
But I think some things could be improved. The index lists everything by page number, which is fine if you're just leisurely looking through the book. But if you're looking for one particular outfit, it would be much more convenient to have an alphebetical listing. I wouldn't mind seeing the price guide broken down to include each individual accessory, since many people put together a complete set, piece by piece. But the thing that REALLY bugs me is that she almost always adds the word 'doll' after their names. For example, 'On weekends, Ken doll liked to take Barbie doll for a drive...', or 'Francie doll was excited about...'. Very annoying, to me, anyway. But, overall, it's a very good book to have.

I started reading the Peanuts when I was in elementary school, and followed the strip until its end. When it ended I hoped that Schultz's work would be compiled into a collection, and it was. When I hear Fantagraphics was going to publish all of the Peanuts strips I didn't give the collection much thought, with regard to the design, packaging, etc. I was just happy that there was going to be a collection!

When I recieve my order from Amazon, and first lifted the box that The Complete Peanuts 1950-1954 came in I was pleased to discover that the box was quite heavy. Why? The publisher didn't just throw the strips together in a cheap package. Fantagraphics gave the Peanuts the packaging and presentation it deserves. Two hard cover books...with wonderfully designed cover jackets...slips into a very sturdy box; I have the other 3 box sets and each box's design features a character and related artwork...its simply amazing and I couldn't ask for more. These books are going to last a long time, not to mention look great on a book shelf. I highly recommend this product and the other box sets as well. You can't beat the price Amazon is asking either. I was at Borders a while ago and they were asking $35 just for ONE book...not for the box set. Another thing to keep in mind...this endeavor by Fantagraphics is likely to be a one time deal, because it is so expensive to publish all of the strips.

Not too long ago, retailers sold out of the 1950-1954 box set, and it looked like they were not going to get anymore in. Fortunatley they did, but during this shortage the box set was selling for $250+ on eBay. So, buy it while you can...you won't regret it if you are a fan of the Peanuts...or a casual reader!

another rave review for the beginning of "Peanuts"

I am in my mid-forties and am enjoying this wonderful journey back into my childhood. Although I caught Peanuts and Schultz in the 1960s, I still grew to have this huge spot in my heart for the world of Peanuts. As an adult (I think) now, I can also enjoy the strip for its sometimes unexpected, intimate peek into the life of Charles Schultz.

It is, therefore, with great joy that I started at the beginning, pre-Peanuts, when Schultz's comic strip was named "Lil Folks." It is fascinating to see how early he had developed some characters' features (Lucy and Charlie Brown). It is also possible to see how far Snoopy comes along as a character with a ripe, expansive internal life, when he was still "just a dog" in the 1950s.

I won't bore you with the details; if you're a Peanuts fan, you already know who's who and all that. Suffice to say that, for Peanuts fans or those wanting an overview of the Great Charles Schutlz's work, this is a fine place to start the journey.

I loved this set so much that I would rate it more than 5 stars if I could!

Must have!

I am now on the second volume of this set, and I will be sticking with them through the entire series, buying every box set released! These volumes are great! Even the simple, clean, uninterrupted way the comics are shown is great. Before I know it, an hour has passed, and I'm excited to see that I still have 100 pages' worth of reading -- and then more excited to know that a lot more volumes are coming. This is a fascinating way to see how the comics evolved, and to see how Schulz had created something special, from the very beginning. I recommend these!!!

Wonderful memories.

My wife has always been a fan of Peanuts, and I found these to be perfect. She's so happy each time she opens a new one.
